The Port Colborne Refinery was commissioned over 100 years ago near the shores of beautiful Lake Erie on the Niagara Peninsula. Raw materials from Vale’s Sudbury Operations are transported to Port Colborne for processing through the three plants; the Cobalt Refinery, Precious Metals Refinery and the Nickel Packaging and Distribution Centre. Products include, electro-cobalt, precious metals concentrate, gold sand and finished nickel products. Finished products are shipped from Port Colborne to destinations around the world.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Production Supervisor(s) to join our Port Colborne Refinery Team in Port Colborne, Ontario.

Although previous experience in an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great!

Education:
  • The ideal candidate will have a College Diploma or a minimum Grade 12 with equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a refining or mineral processing environment leading a crew.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word and experience with SAP would be an asset.

Requirements & Accountabilities:
  • Ensure that all team members reporting to them take responsibility for aspects of occupational health, safety and risk mitigation over which they have control including adherence to all legislated Occupational Health and Safety requirements
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the continued improvement of the Teams occupational health and safety performance
  • Adherence to Vale’s established Golden Rules and Critical Activity Requirements
  • Actively participate in all elements of the Vale Production System (VPS)
  • Adhere to Vale’s Policies, Programs and Standards
  • Hold crew accountable for area safety behavior, housekeeping, teamwork and professionalism
  • Ensure all work performed is executed in compliance with stated procedures
  • Supervise and coordinate the work components of the Asset Management Framework
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or their designate to achieve the desired results
  • Work within budget, guidelines and standards to execute safety and production plans as established by the Superintendent or their designate
  • Encourage a culture of safety, trust and respect amongst crew members and the Port Colborne Team
  • Work collaboratively with peers and the various support groups including maintenance, process technology, engineering, and other services to achieve outstanding results
  • The position will require shift coverage on a 12-hour rotating schedule, 7-days a week
  • Must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Maintain open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of their work
