Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Site Inspector – Rail Signal and Systems to join the Infrastructure group in our Rail Systems team in the Mississauga location, on a contract basis.

As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Ensure that timely analysis and recommendations are provided to stakeholders for all issues including, but not limited to, extension of time requests, cost estimates, change orders, claims, diaries of construction activities, progress and final payment certification, negotiations, change proposals, design and construction problems encountered.
  • Onsite monitoring and reporting on contractor’s activities during construction, testing and commissioning stages.
  • Provide weekly and monthly, and if required daily, reports including site photos summarizing progress and identifying issues.
  • Coordinate and carry out inspections during construction to review quality of contractor’s work and compliance with the construction IFC drawings, contract specifications and applicable industry standards.
  • Coordinate and build partnerships both internally with Hatch and externally with partners to achieve goals.
  • When required, coordinate with Third Party Services such as; Geotechnical, Hydro, Utilities, etc. Work might include arranging for material testing, quality control inspections.


You bring to the role:
  • Ten (10) years of experience in the rail signaling industry with at least five (5) of those working in the role capacity as manager, supervisor or inspector for rail systems construction, maintenance or quality assurance work assignments;
  • Professional Engineer, Certified Technologist or Technician designation, from Accredited Electrical or Electronic Engineering Program, licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario is an asset;
  • Experience with railway, commuter rail, metro and/or LRT signaling with emphasis on brown field upgrades;
  • Thorough understanding of the Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and eligible for certification;
  • Knowledge of and experience with managing the construction, maintenance, installation and testing of rail signaling, grade crossing, wayside detection, traction power, OCS, and communications systems;
  • Demonstrable experience in procedure development, construction safety, scheduling, testing and inspection;
  • Knowledge of railway and transit operations, procedures, and roadway worker protection.
