We are looking for an"¯ Reliability Engineer Plant and Automation to be part of the Regional Rail Engineering Team at Dampier. You will improve asset reliability and cost through reliability analysis and the delivery of reliability improvement on Rail Maintenance Plant and Automation assets across RTIO rail network.

This role is a great opportunity for an expert in Root Cause Analysis and Site maintenance tactics for Automation machinery to join our diverse and technical team of experts. Reporting to the Senior Reliability Engineer, you will be:
  • Responsible for Defect Elimination process - Identify & prioritise defects, facilitate and participate in high-level root cause analysis & manage the defect elimination project portfolio for Plant and Automation assets. Plant and Automation assets include, but not limited to automatic wheel machining lathes, cranes, borer, press, workshop electrical substations, rail welding facility etc.
  • Improve site MTBF and MTTR by using rail system reliability modelling and RCA process.
  • Conduct reliability analysis and interpret failures or unscheduled loss/cost data and make valuable recommendations to improve our business. This requires investigating daily maintenance shifts logs and SAP breakdown notification/workorders.
  • Work closely with Plant and Automation Maintenance Superintendent, supervisors and maintainers to obtain the necessary support to implement defect elimination culture at all levels.
  • Support the Rio Tinto Rail Plant and Automation execution team with change management, asset management and work management skills.

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Bachelor of Engineering Mechatronics or Automation
  • Relevant engineering experience in railway engineering standards, automation, loco/wagon maintenance workshops, rail welding facility, reliability practices
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • RCA and problem-solving techniques
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Understanding of the data analytical tools: Power BI, Spotfire, Excel, SAP and APM. Experience with programming languages and SQL is desirable
  • C Class Driving Licence
  • Understanding rail safe operating procedures

Where you'll be working

You will be based in the heart of coastal town Karratha and operating out of the close by town of Dampier. Our port facilities consist of four shipping terminals located on the Pilbara coast at Dampier and Cape Lambert which form an essential part of our logistics process. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, iron ore stockpiling, product blending and ship loading.
