Role Details

Gold Fields - St Ives is currently seeking a Technician: Communications to join their Underground Maintenance department.

Reporting to the Electrical Coordinator, you will be responsible for installing and providing quality and timely preventative maintenance and repairs of the underground communications network and associated infrastructure.

This role is offered on 5 days on 2 days off 4 days on 3 days off roster and would require the successful applicant to be residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie. Bus transportation is offered to and from site daily and relocation assistance will be offered to the successful candidate if required.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviors are adhered to at all times.
  • Practice preventative maintenance through scheduled inspections, servicing, adjustments, troubleshooting and timely repair of communication, telemetry and networking equipment
  • Provide reliable and accurate maintenance knowledge, expertise and practical application of RF radio, fiber optic and coaxial data and telemetry networks
  • Maximize return on assets through effective performance and reliability of the respective equipment and tools
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all task instructions and procedures and ensure that these are consistently adhered to when carrying out maintenance tasks
  • Execution of the communications plan for St Ives
  • Complete all administrative processing requirements associated with maintenance duties
  • Demonstrate full compliance with the OHS and Environmental Systems standards


Key factors to your success include:

  • Tertiary qualification or Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Minimum 2 years experience in radio communications, telemetry networks and maintenance
  • Extensive knowledge of communications technologies and equipment
  • Minimum 2 years mining industry experience
  • Senior First Aid, EWP, Forklift and Working at Heights certificates are desirable
