Position Description:

At Nevada Gold Mines, our vision is to be the world's most valued gold mining business by finding, developing and operating the best assets with the best people. Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Underground Engineering Superintendent at our Cortez Hills Underground Mine. The Engineering Superintendent should be very familiar with underground design, scheduling and budgeting at large underground mines, and be able to lead, manage, and supervise the team to ensure a high standard of support to the operation. This position is expected to foster collaboration between departments and all levels of the organization ensure all inputs are considered for the most efficient ore extraction.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and develop systems which ensure the engineering team initiates interactions within the business units to deliver best practice services and innovations to their customers
  • Participate in the overall management of the engineering department to ensure that production and profitability targets are achieved
  • Principle functional responsibilities are tactical and strategic mine planning, mine design, ventilation, geotechnical engineering, production design, data capture and analysis, surveying and projects
  • Apply industry best practices to ensure schedules and designs are optimized and resources are effectively utilized to avoid rework
  • Lead the surveying groups to embrace the newest technology and a high-quality work product
  • Continue to develop and strengthen the technical capability of the Technical Services Team. As part of this, lead, influence and empower the team to continually improve on the work product delivered by their functional area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • A degree in a minerals related field preferably Mining Engineering
  • Eight (8) or more years' experience working in underground hard rock mining operations with a range of exposure to practical and technical areas required
  • Proven leadership capabilities, together with the ability to lead and empower a diverse group of technical professionals with specialist skillsets required
  • Extensive experience with underground design and scheduling at large UG mines required
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software required
  • Ability to use Deswik computer systems required
  • Strong technical writing, group presentation, communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Sound understanding of safety and environmental requirements associated with underground mining required
  • Financial management, evaluation techniques, and budgeting skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in productive conflict as part of a leadership team required
  • Demonstrated capacity to execute and hold self and others accountable for results required

About Nevada Gold Mines

Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.

The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018.
