The Business Analyst – Data Science is responsible for providing vital support to the business by using data science/machine learning to drive insights and decisions that improve revenue and operation. This role will work cross-functionally with key stakeholders across WesTrac to identify business optimisation initiatives, deliver data science/machine learning solutions, contribute to the long-term business optimisation plan and support the business in implementing key analytical initiatives.

Other key functions of the role include developing and implementing data science/machine learning capability to resolve business problems (e.g. customer behaviour prediction, market analytics, sales forecast, resource and operation optimisation, pricing modelling, asset failure prediction, etc.), as well as developing business intelligence and analysis to report and measure business performance.

This role is a permanent full-time opportunity based at our WA head office in South Guildford.

To be successful the following is required:
  • 3 years or more commercial experience with R and/or Python (preferred)
  • Ability to handle complex data engineering and transformation
  • Ability to develop and refine data science/machine learning solutions to resolve business problems
  • Experience with business intelligence/analytics tool (e.g. Power BI) and knowledge of data modelling
  • Experience with SparkR or PySpark is a bonus
  • Strong commercial acumen and business analysis skills
  • Ability to work successfully within a team and autonomously
