Community Relations & Sustainability Manager

 

Role Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Sustainable Development, the Community Relations & Sustainability Manager at Barkerville Gold Mines will develop and maintain positive relationships with community members, local organizations, and fellow employees to cultivate a favorable operating climate for the company. The Community Relations & Sustainability Manager will coordinate the delivery of the corporate sustainability program and make recommendations to senior leadership to execute strategies to enhance our approach to sustainability initiatives and reporting. This role requires a highly motivated, organized self-starter with strong presentation and communication skills and a desire and ability to interact with a variety of groups.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key point of contact for individuals, businesses, and governments locally and in the region.
  • Effectively communicate with individuals to discover the issues affecting them and address pressing concerns.
  • Plan, organize, and manage activities that help the company achieve its social license and public relations objectives.
  • Raise community awareness of company projects, initiatives, and objectives.
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of community relations staff; ensuring departmental goals and milestones are met, handle personnel issues, and improve department process.
  • Develop strong relationships with industries, local and regional communities, and governments to increase the reach of organizational initiatives and programs.
  • Prepare publicity materials and make sure that any print or digital materials offered to the community enhance the company’s image.
  • Build and maintain comprehensive knowledge of sustainability initiatives and programs across the company.
  • Communicate and promote sustainability initiatives and programs; participate in the development of a communication strategy.
  • Provide support for the mine site general management; develop regular updates, presentations, and reports.
  • Maintain the company’s Risk Register; identifying challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization.

 

Professional Experience

  • Track record of success and achievement demonstrated in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, community relations or a related field.
  • Experience in the natural resource sector is an asset.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Degree in Communications, Social Science, Leadership, a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 3-5 years related experience in engaging communities in resource development projects and mobilizing resident action to solve community issues.
  • Demonstrates strong thinking and analytical skills. Ability to get up to speed with new processes/procedures and able to adapt readily to change
  • Knowledge of Sustainability reporting and programs including Environment, Sustainability and Governance (ESG)
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building abilities with the capacity to work independently and in a team environment with people at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Excellent planning, facilitating, time management, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  •  Excellent training, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Teams, Power Point and Project
  • Ability to listen and communicate in a clear, honest, authentic, and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
