Blue Coast Research Ltd. (BCR) is a growing consultancy and metallurgical testwork laboratory located in Parksville, British Columbia. BCR is focussed on providing high quality metallurgical testwork, data and interpretation to the global minerals industry.
BCR is looking to hire a Project Geologist / Geometallurgist to be part of our expanding geometallurgical consulting team.
Overview
Reporting directly to the Manager of Geometallurgy, the Project Geologist / Geometallurgist will operate as a technical resource on geometallurgical projects for clients of Blue Coast Research. Geometallurgical projects may either be at the mineral project development phase (PEA, PFS, FS) or for operating mines. The Project Geologist / Geometallurgist will provide consulting services both from our Parksville office and / or the client’s exploration project site or mining operation.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Geologist / Geometallurgist will:
- Be a visible health and safety leader, with a focus on providing a safe and respectful environment for Blue Coast employees, clients and contractors.
- Review, evaluate and apply the client’s resource databases to geometallurgical projects.
- Spatially map geometallurgical information using tools such as Leapfrog (BCR uses Leapfrog).
- Apply principals of economic geology and mineral paragenesis to geometallurgical assessments and testing strategies.
- Provide best practice guidance in appropriate sampling for geometallurgical characterization.
- Apply and interpret datasets from advanced geological and mineralogical techniques such as hyperspectral analysis and automated mineralogy.
- Build mathematical relationships between geometallurgical characteristics and the geology and mineralogy of the client’s deposit.
- Report data (via spreadsheet or written reports) and present results.
- Work collaboratively with Project Metallurgists, providing oversight of geometallurgical testwork in the laboratory and development of new techniques for ore characterization.
- Develop and sustain client relationships.
Education and Experience
The Project Geologist / Geometallurist should have:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a Geologist, either in exploration, mining geology, or process mineralogy.
- Familiarity with geological and mine operations software packages (such as Leapfrog, Vulcan, IoGas etc).
- An understanding of technological developments in geology, mineralogy and testing services.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills (English language).
- B.Sc. degree in Geology.
- Ability to register as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) in British Columbia.
It would be well regarded, but is not required to have:
- A graduate degree in Geology (M.Sc., Ph.D.)
- Fluency in a second language (preferably French or Spanish)
Location
This position will be based at the Blue Coast Research facilities in Parksville, BC. Some travel (national and international) to client project sites may be required from time to time.
