Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Schedule: 7/7 – 12 hour day

Position Reports To: Mine Superintendent

Poisition Overview

The Drill and Blast Supervisor plays an integral part ensuring the mine operations is operated effectively and safely in day-to-day operations. This position works closely with the Mine Superintendent to plan, organize, and control Drill and Blast activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promotes a positive safety culture with a target for zero incidents and accidents
  • Maintain safety and environmental systems consistent with business policies
  • Coordinates drill and blast activities and oversees drill moves
  • Understands specifications, drawings, and survey staking and is able to translate and communicate this information into the field.
  • Plans for team and individual results and delegates accordingly
  • Provides effective leadership to build a strong employee culture
  • Responds to particular situations and people to ensure best practices are being employed
  • Ensure that drilling and blasting produces at the lowest possible cost while achieving planned targets.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement initiatives of the department
  • Ensures a high level of quality and production standards
  • Establishes the most efficient use of resources to reach target / goals
  • Encourages and develops employee skill levels
  • Leads with integrity and demonstrates good work ethics
  • Reports any problems or unforeseen issues that could affect the plan to the Mine Superintendent
  • Ensures the crews and lead hands have correct information to perform their duties
  • Regularly tour and inspect the drilling and blasting areas to identify and address any health and safety, environmental, production, equipment, and employee issues.
  • Collaborate with the Mine Technical, Maintenance, and Contractor teams to efficiently execute drill and blast plans.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Mine Operations team, Mine Technical Services, Maintenance, and Contractor teams to efficiently execute mine plans.
  • Provide assistance to the HR team and ownership in the hiring of Mine employees.
  • Ensure employees have a clear understanding of work objectives and expectations of performance levels.
  • Collaborate with HR for Employee Relations & Investigations
  • Ensure all incidents are entered in INX (Incident Reporting Tool) in a timely manner
  • Manage and enter leave and exceptions reporting & updating rosters


Qualifications
  • A minimum of 7 years’ drilling and blasting experience or equivalent industrial type environment with demonstrated leadership ability
  • Solid understanding and experience of open pit mining practices and equipment capabilities
  • Solid working knowledge and understanding of safety and environmental requirements and of mining procedures
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines
  • Well-developed planning, problem solving, decision making, interpersonal, communication and organization skills
  • Work in a team environment to meet deadlines
  • Positive attitude and commitment to safety Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities
