Job Description

To provide technical leadership to an area of the US tax function, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall strategy. Manages moderately complex projects in US tax and compliance with US tax laws. Optimizes Kinross' US cash and book income and maximizes operational efficiencies and profitability. Participates in business and / or project planning by offering technical and cross-functional expertise. This role may be at the regional, global or corporate level.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and implementation of business practices and policies concerning U.S. tax and its compliance that aligns with the organization's overall strategy
  • Works collaboratively across functional areas to support business transactions, acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations and financings, and develop and implement U.S. tax structures in coordination with international operations to optimize both the U.S. and the global tax position of the company
  • Leads technical projects including defining and achieving project goals, anticipating and minimizing risks, managing resources
  • Work closely with external partners in a cost effective manner, and build creditable, collaborative and effective working relationships across the organization
  • Prepare business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
  • Reviews best practices and the competitive landscape and recommends continuous improvement efforts in tax
  • Stays abreast of US federal, state and mining tax and international tax legislation and regulations affecting U.S. corporate taxation and provides expertise and guidance to the company regarding relevant changes
  • May assist with the timely and accurate completion of the Kinross income and commodity tax compliance, including but not limited to tax filings and financial statement reporting
  • Stays abreast of US federal and state income tax legislation affecting U.S. employees and related benefit plans. May assist Human Resources and Payroll from time to time on tax related issues.
  • May assist with the implementation and maintenance of IFRS as well as other accounting standards as required


Education and Experience

Education
  • University degree - preferably business or law degree
  • Professional Designation - Certified Professional Accountant ("CPA") - US
  • University or professional education on US corporate and related international taxation


Experience
  • At least 8 - 12 years of related work experience, including experience with U.S. and foreign taxes including income tax, mining tax/royalty, and value-added taxes
  • Some experience dealing with employee taxation and benefits taxation would be preferred


Skills

  • Outstanding technical and managerial skills required
  • Strong business ethics with a value-based approach to business and relationship building
  • Skills with financial and U.S.tax software
  • Understanding of Spanish, French, and Russian would be nice to have but not a requirement
  • Strong skills in excel and other financial modeling software, use of US tax software and tax research software
