We are looking for a Communications Advisor to assist with the implementation of communications strategies through media, digital, employee and external communications activities to protect and enhance Diavik / Rio Tinto's reputation.

Reporting to the Corporate Relations Business Partner and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Closure team, you will be responsible for:
  • Researching and preparing materials including briefs and presentations
  • Supporting the dissemination of information to internal and external stakeholders and gathering feedback to support ongoing communications
  • Working daily with operational and closure communications to ensure efficient use of communications channels and implementation of the Diavik communication's strategy
  • Providing general support to the team, helping ensure efficient delivery of the team's objectives
  • Supporting the closure team in planning and coordinating events, meetings and workshops
  • Providing project support and proactively and consistently managing stakeholder expectations
  • Proactively escalating issues and solutions to the appropriate levels
  • Developing and maintaining a favorable relationship with the surrounding community, actively participating in the local community and developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders through strong engagement and communication.

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A bachelor's degree and at least three years' professional experience in communications, journalism, marketing or related fields
  • The ability to source information and create compelling, plain language communications materials with succinct topics
  • An understanding of local cultures and the political, economic and social landscape of Canada's north

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets. Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the DDMI Participation Agreement Groups and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
