Chief Geologist

Job Description

The Chief Geologist is responsible for safely directing and leading the Exploration and Production Geology Team with a primary focus on production activities, specifically including grade control, resource modelling, reserve replacement drilling and hydrogeological related activities.

Accountability

The Chief Geologist reports to the General Manager

Responsibilities and Duties

o Effective leadership of the Geology Team in line with the company's Values
o Coordination of Geology Team activities to safely and timely meet business needs
o Develop, implement and oversee an effective and transparent grade control program
o Accountable for safe, timely and on-budget execution of drilling programs
o Assist with and facilitate exploration activities
o Functional leader for Mineral Reserve and Resource estimates, including results certification
o Accountable for the company's drill hole and sample management system
o Facilitate inter-departmental coordination to ensure clear and open communication
o Participate in the development and maintenance of the Life of Mine plan
o Accountable for all Mineral Resource models
o Responsible for ensuring the business develops an ongoing and increasingly more informed understanding of local and district geology
o Development of departmental budgets
o Responsible for Grade Control Reconciliation Program

Qualifications

o Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, or equivalent level of experience
o Preferred professional experience levels:
o Minimum five (5) years of proven effective people leadership experience
o Minimum eight (8) years of production mining environment
o In-depth knowledge of drill hole, grade control systems and reconciliation program
o Strong computer skills in geological modeling software
o Proven track record of strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

o Registration as a Professional Geologist

Physical and Mental Demands and Requirements

o Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in weight
o Legally operate a vehicle typically requiring a Class 4 and/or 5 licenses
o Periodically work in environmental extremes (i.e. hot or cold weather)
o Sit for extended periods of time
o Stay alert during periods of inactivity
o Walk on uneven ground

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent works a 40 hour/week schedule, primarily from Monday through Thursday. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
