About this role

What will you be responsible for?
The Site Business Manager is responsible for providing strategic commercial input in to the Yanacocha operation. The Site Business Manager is a meaningful role which directly and indirectly impacts commercial decisions of material significance to Yanacocha, through analysis, advice and the maintenance of reporting systems across the site..
This role coordinates & leads all aspects of the finance & accounting processes that support the Yanacocha operation to successfully deliver budgets, forecasts, cost reporting and accounting results as well as supporting financial evaluations. A meaningful member of the Site Leadership Team and partner to the General Manager supporting cost management, identification and realization of optimization opportunities and ensuring a robust control environment is in place.
This position is encouraged to liaise closely with the Business Planning and Finance organizations at the Regional and Corporate levels in the completion of these duties
This role also supports in maintaining the relationship with Newmont's partners in Yanacocha (Buenaventura and Sumitomo).

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
  • We ensure the accurate recording of transactions and assets in Yanacocha's books & records in accordance with Peruvian and US GAAP - reviewing cost center allocations, operating expense versus capital expenditure treatment, accounting for asset retirement and closure, reviewing Balance Sheet Reconciliations, MRCDs and journal entries from Site accounting team
  • We work with the Corporate Controller team, Tax team and other key contacts to ensure timely completion of month-end accounting close, preparation of financial documents (both for Group reporting and for local and partner reporting purposes) and other regulatory filings (supporting the provision of financial input when required in support of tax filings)
  • We work with the Corporate Controller team to review the annual and quarterly audit plan of the external auditors and support the efficient conduct of the external audit (both for Newmont consolidation as well as local financial documents)
  • We manage the site Capital and Investment program including support for a robust capital allocation / prioritization process, quality preparation of Investment Review Paper and financial business case to support an investment. Leading the site investment council in review of investment requests and ensuring timely completion of site-based approval to support Regional or Executive level approvals as required.
  • We lead preparation and optimization of the LOM business plans (budgets), rolling forecasts and quarterly forecasts, providing optimized physicals, operating costs, and capital cost plans; Participate as an active member of the leadership team in understanding the budget, challenging the assumptions and looking for cost optimization opportunities to ensure a robust yet deliverable budget.
  • We supervise actual performance against budget and provide explanation of variances as well as highlighting trends and suggesting solutions to ensure adverse variances are addressed understood and, where possible resolved or replaced with improvement opportunities.
  • We ensure supporting documentation is maintained as required for internal and external control purposes (SOX compliance). Review the information process flow for operating, project investments and fixed asset costs to ensure alignment with Company SOX guidelines. Periodically evaluate and, where required strengthen the controls in place.
  • We review the capture of Full Potential benefits in Budget or Actual reporting in order to adequately highlight variances. Lead Full Potential initiatives as established by Finance Area or put under the oversight of the Site Business Manager.
  • We coordinate the materials to be presented at quarterly Yanacocha Partners meetings as well as the monthly provision of financial information to partners. Present financial elements of actual performance, budgets and forecasts in partners meetings and facilitate the annual budget partner workshop.
  • We review and approve the contracted services managed by site Finance including physical inventory counts, custody of documents, system implementation, audits, dore custody and others.
  • We work together with the Human Resources area in the calculation and payment of Yanacocha payroll
  • We determine short term cash forecasting and work together with the Treasury team to ensure efficient investment of excess cash and maintenance of local bank accounts in accordance with Newmont Treasury policies
  • We work with the Treasury and Controller teams to support annual bonding of Yanacocha's environment closure requirements under Peurvian regulations.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!
  • Accounting or Business degree, with 8 - 10 years of experience in progressively more senior roles, ideally in the mining and extractive industry, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, accounting, budgeting, planning, US GAAP, SAP, BPC
  • Good oral and written communication skills in order to effectively convey implications of business evaluation and decisions.
  • Strong English and Spanish language skills.
  • Influence, impact and motivation skills, including establishing and maintaining highly effective cross-organizational relationships
  • Teamwork and Leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively in an international and cross-cultural environment.


Working conditions and location

Where you will be located!
  • Corporate office environment, with flexible working conditions. The position is located in the site office in Cajamarca, Peru, with ad hoc travel to the Yanacocha mine site (which is located 3700m above sea level).
