About this role

Newmont's Technical Services (TS) works to secure value for life of mine by providing technical support for exploration, projects, and operating sites. The Process division of TS, including Newmont Metallurgical Services (NMS), performs the test work that drives many business decisions.

Your role will consist of

As an intern, you will be responsible for implementing specific metallurgical projects, as well as supporting the day-to-day activities of your department. The exact projects will be established according to your availability, interest, skills, and experience, in addition to the specific business needs.

Possible projects include:
  • Research into multiple topics including: Mineral Processing, Comminution, and/or Hydrometallurgy
  • General support to the metallurgical team for sample preparation, process testing execution, data entry and analysis and reporting
  • Work Rotation: General introduction to the Newmont Metallurgical Services capabilities (Mineralogy, Analytical, Water and Metallurgy) as a means of providing a holistic view.


The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work; other work may also be assigned.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

  • Undergraduate students preferred, graduating in December 2021 or later -(ie: Bachelor's or Master's in Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering or Mineral Processing). May consider other similar disciplines.
  • Experience in mining and/or passion to learn about the hard-rock mining industry preferred
  • Strong organization, project and time management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfort engaging with senior leaders and global teams
  • Strong research methods capability and writing skills
  • Valid work authorization to work in the United States for this position.

Working conditions and location

Summer intern positions begin in May 2020 and conclude in August 2020. The exact dates are flexible depending on each student's availability and our business need. Our internships are full-time paid positions (40 hours/week).

This internship is based at our corporate laboratory in Englewood, CO. It is possible some travel may be required to one or more of Newmont Goldcorp's sites. There is ample opportunity for internal networking within our company.

T he hourly rate offered for this overtime-eligible role is $ 20 (Freshman) - $36 (PhD). The hourly rate is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The hourly rate offer will not be based on a candidate's wage rate history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about wage rate history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont. This role is not eligible for benefits except for as applicable by law.
