Description
The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for conducting field geotechnical investigations, management of laboratory test programs and subsequent material characterization, geotechnical analysis and design of mine infrastructure such as tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads and waste dumps using a variety of analytic tools and software. Experience with foundation, slope stability, rock mechanics, seepage and settlement analyses is advantageous. This position requires superior written and verbal communication skills to effectively interface with staff personnel, clients and vendors.
Requirements
Education Requirement
: BS in Geotechnical Engineering, MS preferred
Experience Requirement:
Entry level to 5 years of experience
Computer Software:
Proficiency using Rocscience or GeoStudio suites, Autodesk Civil 3D and MS Office Suite; Numerical modeling experience is advantageous.
Required Travel:
Domestic and foreign travel required; approximately 25 - 50%
Physical Demands
: Position may require sitting for long periods of time, extended hours working on a computer and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments are located in a variety of climactic conditions and may require standing, squatting, bending, the use of machinery and a variety tools.
Position Responsibilities
•Develop and conduct geotechnical field investigations.
•Perform and assign laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
•Interpret and analyze geotechnical data to establish type, classification, and engineering characteristics of materials.
•Complete or assist with geotechnical engineering analyses including, but not limited to, seepage, slope stability, earthquake-induced deformation and settlement analyses.
•Perform geotechnical analysis and design of mine infrastructure such as tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads and waste dumps.
•Coordinate and oversee construction and development of earthwork projects following standard procedures (quality assurance and quality control).
•Use Autodesk Civil 3D to develop geotechnical analysis cross-sections and parameters.
•Prepare accurate and professional technical reports and presentations.
•Travel nationally and internationally up to 50% of the time.
•Maintain a valid driver's license that is in good standing with the company's Driver Performance Rating System.
•Cooperation and coordination with co-workers and project team to assist in on-time completion and delivery of high-quality technical work.
