Construction Technical Planner

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Construction Planner is a direct report to the Mine Support Construction General Foreman. This position provides support to the construction team through the planning and scheduling of operational and capital project work at the Stillwater Mine. The Planner will undertake the duties and responsibilities ranging from project support, conducting QA/QC audits of field related work, and driving initiatives for process optimization. This position will also carry out duties supporting the construction team in the development and progress tracking of work on operational and capital infrastructure projects.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Conduct QA/QC audits on projects for adherence to design.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems.
  • Work with both short and long-range planners to develop plans and schedules that meet business needs.
  • Work closely with mine support groups to ensure identified needs are addressed through project scope and execution.
  • Manage projects of various size and complexity.
  • Ensure a Safe working environment so that 'Everyone goes home safe Today'.
  • Attend daily construction site lineouts for collaboration on daily priorities.
  • Meet with shift Supervisors/Leadmen regarding construction equipment priorities and review the events and work in progress during the previous shift.
  • Attend weekly and quarterly planning meetings to set priorities to meet the mine plan.
  • Organize and schedule through JD Edwards, Work Order Backlogs from information gathered from Work Requests, PM Check Sheets, periodic inspections, and direct requests from operations supervisors & managers.
  • Initiate Work Orders for planned work requested in weekly planning meetings.
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date the W/O backlog.
  • Closeout all completed W/O's.
  • Coordinate with other planners on the same job plan.
  • Allocate or reserve materials and/or initiate warehouse pick tickets for scheduled work.
  • Ensure all information needed to support the planning process and creation of job packages are complete, accurate and detailed.
  • Communicate specific job plans and feedback information to other planners where it would be useful.
  • Support responsibility to contact vendors concerning estimated pricing and availability of parts.
  • Assist in arranging support crafts and contractors as needed for scheduled jobs.
  • Provide information to update drawings, parts list, job steps, etc. as the job is complete.
  • Look for opportunities for continuous improvement in construction practices to reduce cost and downtime.
  • Work as part of a team to help research and develop technological advances inefficiencies and operating systems and ensure changes integrate with existing infrastructure.
  • Cover shift supervisor's duties as needed during absences.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Engineering Degree or related field with 0-3 years' relevant mine experience.
  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite (Projects), JDE, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work within both a team environment and independently.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of narrow vein underground mine operations.
