About the role

We are looking for Geologists with 5-20 years of experience to join the RTX Team in Kazakhstan. These challenging roles will work towards discovering or acquiring mineral resources that create significant value opportunities for Rio Tinto and Kazakhstan. The incumbent will advance exploration projects efficiently and rapidly across any stage of the project lifecycle.

The roles available range from Project Geologist level through to Principal Geologist level.

Project Geologist:
  • Undertake straight forward projects; or lead a discrete team within a larger project;
  • Provide technical support to the project manager;Provide technical advice relating to a particular discipline (eg. geology, geophysics or geochemistry);
  • Undertake supervisory responsibility within the project environment.
  • Support the progression of good potential projects efficiently and rapidly
  • Provide support in regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Implement Rio Tinto policies on safety, environment, community relations and business integrity within the areas of project responsibility.

Senior Geologist :
  • Undertake complex projects and lead teams within multiple project areas (programs);
  • Provide technical support to the program manager or principal geologist;
  • Provide technical advice on geology, geophysics or geochemistry, along with international subject matter experts, and develop field programs for execution;
  • Undertake supervisory responsibility within the project environment which may include multiple licence areas
  • Advance projects with good potential across any stage of the project lifecycle, reporting regularly to the country manager
  • Ensure compliance to company and regulatory reporting needs, maintaining budgets.
  • Implement Rio Tinto policies on safety, environment, community relations and business integrity within the areas of project responsibility.

Principal Geologist/Program Manager
  • Accountability for multiple regional programs
  • Develop and execute exploration programs in consultation with subject matter experts
  • Undertake supervisory responsibility within the Regional program environment.
  • Advance projects with good potential across any stage of the project lifecycle to proceed as efficiently and rapidly as possible.
  • Regularly report on progress to country manager and international senior leadership team
  • Ensure compliance to company and regulatory reporting needs, maintaining budgets.
  • Implement and contribute to improving Rio Tinto policies on safety, environment, community relations and business integrity within the Regional program.

About you

To succeed in these roles, you will have:
  • A passionate desire to participate in discovery
  • Tertiary degree in geology or related field (with honors)
  • Sound technical competence within a relevant exploration discipline (eg. geology, geophysics, geochemistry) and ability to apply relevant concepts and principles to solve technical problems.
  • Knowledge of mineral deposits and exploration techniques with experience in copper being beneficial.
  • Fluency in Russian is required
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and coach project staff and manage contractors.
  • Sound communication and advisory skills including the ability to prepare and present project recommendations and reports to management.
  • Ability to work productively with a wide range of people in a cross cultural, multi-language environment. English language skills will be essential in engaging with our international team,

Where you will be working

The role is based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Travels on site will be required.
