About the role

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to be responsible for the site management of design parameters, reading and interpretation of technical instrumentation (piezometers, inclinometers, accelerometers, etc.), reporting quarterly and annual reports to management and government regulators and ensuring that the best data is utilized in all geotechnical analyses during the Tailings construction and operations.

Located in Magna, Utah (20 miles west of Salt Lake City) and reporting to the Technical Principal Advisor for Tailings & Water Services, you will be responsible for:
  • Assisting Senior Geotechnical Engineer with coordination of Engineer of Record (EOR) on design changes and geotechnical risk mitigations
  • Under the supervision of Senior Geotechnical Engineer, assist with Interpretation of embankment geotechnical design parameters
  • Providing analysis and interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation (piezometers, inclinometers, accelerators, etc.) to direct "Observational Method" and "Performance Based Method" of construction of tailings embankment.
  • Participating in coordination of execution of QA/QC program
  • Maintaining Automated System for piezometer and geotechnical instrumentation
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and manage continuous improvement processes

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will need:
  • Undergraduate degree in Geotechnical, Geological, Mining or Civil Engineering is essential
  • At least 1-4 years of relevant operating and technical experience
  • Relevant industry training in the fields of Geotechnical Engineering
  • Some experience on tailings construction or dam construction
  • Experience with slope monitoring systems and geo-hazard management
  • Knowledge of geotechnical software packages
  • Ability to work independently and to take/apply feedback
