The Minerals Processing Consultant will be part of the Global Minerals Processing team which has some 80 members based in various places around the world. This role will however be based in the Hatch Johannesburg office.

The Minerals Processing team in Johannesburg supports the Africa, Europe. Middle East and CIS (AEM) clients by providing engineering services and/or field support.

Specific tasks of this specialist role include the leading of process teams, the development and improvement of minerals processing facilities, the development and maintenance of client relationships and business, the mentoring of staff, the development of solutions across all minerals processing areas of the process plant across various systems, unit operations and process equipment; and the leading of the execution and commissioning of these solutions.

Client liaison and maintaining the focus of projects on achieving unprecedented and sustained business results for the client is a large part of the work. The role will require the engineer to retain a high level understanding of the client’s business and projects with respect to the safety, environmental, community, and financial aspects to guide the client and Project Manager’s decisions related to achieving process objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business development for Hatch in the AEM region for minerals processing and other process opportunities
  • Involved in conducting and completion of the process engineering component of studies and detailed design for projects; managing scope, schedule and budget for the process engineering team
  • Maintain the focus of projects to achieve unprecedented and sustained business results for Hatch clients
  • Definition of and input to various process deliverables including process design basis, block flow diagram, scoping process test work, process design criteria, process flow sheet and equipment options and undertake trade off studies to resolve options, mass and energy balance, carryout engineering design calculations and equipment sizing calculations.
  • Manage the understanding, development and implementation of process technology
  • Experience in modelling of minerals processing equipment and systems
  • Manage the operational success of process technology
  • Mentor other members of the process team
  • Contribute to hazard studies
  • Ensure process specifications portray the appropriate information and design intent
  • Involvement in or lead commissioning of equipment and systems
  • Identify new business opportunities and Develop proposals


Qualifications and Experience
  • Chemical engineering, metallurgy, chemistry, or other relevant degree
  • 15+ years process engineering experience in process operations and/or engineering contracting/consultancy organizations with a focus on minerals processing processes
  • Known as a world leader in a specific process technology or unit process or as a highly skilled generalist
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent understanding of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologies
  • A high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline
  • Significant experience in engineering planning for the process engineering discipline
  • Ability to manage individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives
  • Strong network of relationships with minerals processing plant management or technical leadership in the AEM region
  • Ability to win new work.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.


Preferred
  • Experience with working on a major project in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of the regional mineralogy across multiple commodities, minerals processing process plants and technical issues experienced there.
  • Strong concentrator experience with specific experience in testwork, comminution, flotation, physical separation, thickening, filtration and material handling.
