Purpose

The Drill and Blast General Foreperson will provide leadership and support for the site to establish and execute drill and blast strategies, develop and embed procedures, and maintain compliance to annual budget.

This role is responsible for all drilling including both probing and production, blasting, drill and blast pattern designs, alignment and timely sequencing of drilling activities to achieve business plan, and continuous improvement of drilling and blasting activities. The Drill and Blast General Foreperson role will supervise and manage multiple engineering positions, blast supervisor, and drill operators.

The role will liaise with other key roles and stakeholders in mine operations and technical services groups to ensure common and consistent processes and pit progressions are followed and sustainable.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct safety meetings, staff meetings, and safety inspections.
  • Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to safety and environmental compliance
  • Direct Management of Drill and Blast Supervisor
  • Direct Management of Drill and Blast Engineers
  • Contractor owners representative for contractor partners in drilling and blasting
  • Allocation of probe and production drills and personnel to achieve mine plans and site targets
  • Accountability for achieving drill and blast budget
  • Maintain accurate reporting for site and legal agency requirements
  • QA/QC for drilling pattern to design
  • QA/QC for loading and blasting to design
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures as required for drilling and blasting
  • Coordinate with the maintenance department in scheduling equipment while balancing maintenance and operational priorities.
  • Oversee pattern development and timing maps
  • Standardize pattern specifications for different bench heights and pattern types
  • Ensure highwall compliance is within design limits
  • Weekly blast review and analysis
  • Oversee process for anomaly review and implementation of lessons learned
  • Responsible for three week drilling and blasting plan development and implementation
  • Oversee and ensure compliance to processes involving bench sign off and pattern development
  • Ensure site compliance to regulations for PPV constraints located within permit
  • Manage and oversee Drill and Blast Optimization Team
  • Responsible for managing Full Potential Projects surrounding drilling and blasting
  • Manage implementation of any new software packages that would improve efficiencies within drilling or blasting
  • Develop a technically competent and credible team which will continuously improve the mining operation.

Training & Experience

Knowledge:
  • In-depth knowledge of Drilling and Blasting, techniques and equipment


Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering or relevant field and seven (7) years experience OR twelve (12) years of related experience.
  • At least four (4) years in a supervisory position desired.
  • Understanding and involvement of positive change to safety cultures.


Skills and Abilities:
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with an attention to detail and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to identify problems, make decisions, create solutions, and take action.
  • Interface with other departments to promote site teamwork and efficiencies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision and to effectively plan, coordinate and complete individual projects in addition to maintaining daily production responsibilities.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel applications and applicable specialized software.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with employees at various levels in the organization
  • Familiarization with continuous improvement and optimization of projects. (desirable)


Working Conditions

  • The position is located at the Cripple Creek and Victor (CC&V) Mine site near Cripple Creek, CO.
  • The work environment is located above 10,000 ft. which requires working at high altitude. The successful candidate must pass a high-altitude medical assessment prior to being offered employment at Cripple Creek.
  • Work requirements will be split between the office and out in the pit.
  • The Drill and Blast General Foreperson may occasionally be asked to work outside of the normal work schedule, which includes being on-call for the off hours.


The salary range offered for this role is $ 98,400 - 129,200 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
