Reporting to the Manager, Water Monitoring and Planning, the Senior Lead Environment Operations, Water is responsible for providing technical and strategic direction for matters related to water quality/quantity, compliance, and integrated watershed planning at an operational and business unit level. You will work within the Environment and Social Responsibility team, collaborating closely with other groups within Teck, to provide technical direction and support regarding operational management of water quality/quantity and compliance with regulatory requirements.

To succeed we require someone with excellent attention to detail and strong applicable knowledge of federal and provincial regulatory approvals practices and regulations. Someone who is a self-starter, has excellent planning and organizational skills, and can prioritize demands. Someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively connect with internal and external parties to identify and resolve issues.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide senior technical direction as a project advisor for emerging water challenges that could affect regional water quality, such as supporting water management planning and upset operating conditions that require support
  • Provide direction and strategic advice on watershed planning and operational water quality/quantity projects and programs, with a particular focus on operationalizing EMA Permit 107517 programs
  • Lead and supervise a team of professionals who are responsible for delivery of relevant water-related plans and programs
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with operations teams, government agencies, Indigenous groups, and other local communities of interest to support the implementation of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan
  • Prepare and submit all necessary data and reports to meet regulatory and other commitments, including presentation of technical information to a variety of audiences
  • Communicate data in a clear and understandable format suitable for the intended audiences to inform mine operations, permitting, water management and support process to gain resolution of any issues or challenges


Qualifications :
  • Engineering or Science degree in an environmental-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience providing technical and strategic direction on operational water related risks and challenges associated with resource management
  • Experience supervising or leading a team
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations
  • Technical understanding of water chemistry analysis/ interpretation, and experience with risk evaluation related to water quality, quantity, and receptors
  • Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and technical direction of multiple environmental projects and budgets in excess of $5 million
