Senior Geologist / Geólogo Senior (Mexico)

El Geólogo Senior (ella / el) trabajará bajo la dirección del Gerente de Exploración y liderará uno de los equipos de exploración con base en el acampamento de Plomosas o San Marcial. El programa de exploración puede consistir en barrenación en superficie o interior mina, exploración greenfields, y exploración de reconocimiento. El candidato seleccionado debe contar con un historial de liderazgo de equipos con éxito en exploración y ser un líder reconocido en su área. Experiencia de trabajo en México es necesario, también se valorará experiencia en otros países latinoamericanos. Se debe contar con experiencia en sistemas epitermales de veta y depósitos polimetálicos y porfídicos. Un cierto interés en geología estructural y curiosidad en resolver problemas geológicos es esencial.

El rol de trabajo es 10-4 o 5-2 con base en Rosario o Mazatlán, Sinaloa.

Responsabilidades Principales:

• Planeamiento y ejecución de programas de exploración con un equipo de geólogos
• Ser un líder en temas de salud y medio ambiente (EHS) en todas las etapas de exploración, siendo un mentor para los geólogos de su equipo
• Ejecutar programas de perforación en superficie e interior mina, programas de mapeo y muestreo
• Gestión de contratista en actividades de exploración
• Preparar secciones geológicas interpretativas y modelados en 3D (Leapfrog)
• Liderar y ser mentor para geólogos y equipos de campo, y asegurar el desarrollo técnico del equipo
• Mantener buena relación con equipos de perforación, acampamento, administración y coordinadores de seguridad, y atender a las necesidades logísticas del programa de exploración
• Asegurar la captura correcta de información geológica, incluyendo la organización y almacenamiento de información creada

Perfil deseado:

• Licenciatura / Ingeniería en Geología o similar, de preferencia con Maestría en Geología
• 8-10 años de experiencia en exploración y minería, de preferencia con experiencia en interior mina
• Fluidez en español con muy buen manejo de ingles
• Experiencia de trabajo en México (preferencia), u otro país latinoamericano
• Tener un historial de liderazgo en exploración y ser reconocido en su área
• Disponibilidad de viajar y estar en campo durante periodos largos de tiempo
• Capacidad de tomar decisiones propias, encontrar soluciones prácticas para resolución de problemas, y saber manejar equipos para lograr los objetivos deseados
• Sensibilidad cultural para tratar adecuadamente con los empleados, las comunidades locales, y otras entidades (COIs)
• Buena comprensión y fuerte experiencia en depósitos epitermales, modelos de exploración y técnicas de exploración
• Conocimiento de software especializado, incluyendo ArcGIS, MX Deposit, Leapfrog

The Senior Geologist reports to the Exploration Manager and leads one of the Company’s exploration programs at the Plomosas or San Marcial exploration camps. This can include active surface and underground drill programs , greenfield exploration, and reconnaissance programs. The successful candidate will be a demonstrated leader within the industry and will have a track record of leading successful teams. She/he will have experience working in an exploration or mine environment in Mexico or another Latin American country, preferentially with experience in epithermal and polymetallic vein-hosted deposits, volcanic dominated host-rock environments, and a keen interest solving structural geology puzzles.

The Senior Geologist ensures safe working conditions for the geologists and helpers reporting to her/him, while executing the exploration program.

The successful candidate will be based out of Rosario or Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and work on a 10-4 or a 5-2 rotation at the exploration camp.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Planning and execution of exploration programs with a team of geologists
• Applying strong health, safety and environmental (HSE) standards at all stages of exploration, and promoting and fostering HSE responsibility as leader of the geology team
• Manage underground exploration activities, including mapping, sampling, and executing drill programs
• Contractor management as part of the exploration program
• Interpreting and analyzing the results of drilling and other geological and geotechnical information to develop geologic and deposit models, delineate current and future exploration targets, and evaluations of mining reserves/resources in the areas under exploration
• Produce interpretative sections using paper cross-section and 3D modelling (e.g. Leapfrog)
• Leading and mentoring geologists and field teams to higher technical standards and ensure their development in the team
• Maintaining a strong working relationship with drill crews, camp management, administration, and HSE coordinators, and attending to logistical needs of the geological program.
• Ensuring the correct capture, collection, organization, and safe-guarding of geologic information created

Candidate Profile:

• Undergraduate or advanced degree in Geology 
• 8-10 years of relevant exploration experience within the mining and exploration industry, preferentially with underground / mine production experience
• Excellent communications skills (speaking and writing) with fluency in Spanish and reasonable English skills
• Significant experience working in Mexico (preferred) or another Latin American country 
• Proven track record of successfully leading and guiding an exploration team(s) 
• Recognition, awareness, and willingness to apply the principles of best sustainable practices in mineral exploration and development
• Willingness to travel and spend considerable time in the field 
• People management and decision-making skills 
• An ability to make realistic exploration interpretations and decisions and create workable solutions for difficulties, obstacles and issues arising within areas of responsibility 
• Cultural sensitivity to deal appropriately with co-workers, local communities, and other communities of interest (COIs) 
• Solid understanding of deposit models, particularly epithermal deposits in Mexico, exploration models, targeting techniques and methodologies (geological, geochemical, geophysical, drilling, etc.) 
• Familiarity with most popular software used including ArcGIS, MX Deposit and Leapfrog modeling software
