The Role

Provide support (technical, management and business expertise) for all levels of mine studies, projects and operations through the preparation or review of Mineral Reserves, mine plans and mine designs. The incumbent will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to strategize / optimize output from our SSR portfolio of operations and projects.

The Day to Day

  • Review the annual Budget and Life of Mine Plan for operations taking into consideration material handling schedules and overall Corporate strategy
  • Provide input to the evaluation of sustaining capital requests and design of underground infrastructure
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual Mineral Reserves Reports (i.e. review of cut-off grade, modifying factors, stope optimization parameters)
  • Interact with the production planning team at Operations to ensure that short-term and long term mine plans are synchronized with the Corporate strategy
  • Provide oversight in the various engineering aspects of mine design, planning and scheduling (layouts, software, mine methods alternatives, equipment fleet selection and utilization, geotechnical, hydrogeological)
  • Review and recommend appropriate upgrades to technical procedures, remain current with industry best practices and champion new ideas that can improve our operating environment
  • Ensure business and technical risks are properly understood and managed
  • Providing guidance and resources for economic and risk analysis for Operations and projects
  • Coordinate work for multi-disciplinary projects (i.e. regulatory compliance of Technical Reports)
  • Provide mentorship for employees in the department and identify development plans for candidates to support succession planning (i.e. mentor engineers at Operations)
  • Act as peer review on all engineering functions, participate in development and/or conduct a program of audits
  • Participate in M&A due diligence teams as required

Is This You?

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mining)
  • Registration or eligibility as a Professional Engineer in the province of employment; willingness to sign off as the Qualified Person as per NI 43-101 requirements
  • 10 - 15 years of underground mine operations experience and should have hands-on experience with various mining methods
  • 5 - 10 years of work experience in project management (review, evaluate, award, administer contracts)
  • 3 - 5 years of experience managing professional staff
  • Proven track record in mine planning and scheduling (short term, medium term, long term)
  • Advance user in Deswik® suite of software (CAD, SO, Sched, IS) or similar mine planning packages
  • Demonstrated analytical and creative reporting skills to drive team performance with advance user skills in Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Other relevant responsibilities / skills to include:
    • Ability to see the ‘big picture'; excellent understanding of mineral economics (i.e. build a discounted cash flow analysis from first principals) and the value creation chain within the mining industry
    • Exposure and familiarity to Ore Resource Estimation techniques is desirable
    • Experience in writing Technical Reports and conducting various levels of mine studies (i.e. scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility)
    • Experience with assisting in systems development and identification for improvement (including cost saving and optimization initiatives)
    • Previous experience in surface mining operations / projects
    • Ability to communicate in Spanish (optional)
  • Comfortable to travel internationally and work with other cultures
