The Environmental Coordinator will provide departmental and technical leadership to support our Environmental Monitoring Plan and Compliance Reporting at the Kemess Underground Project. The position is a 2-week in, 2-week out rotation with charter flight service originating in Prince George.

  • Be the main point of contact for the environment department with site operational department supervisors and oversee and supervise the day-to-day activities of the environment team and consultants.
  • Implement the site Hydrometric and environmental monitoring of the water supply programs including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting with support from consultants
    • Train the environmental field crews on proper field techniques and periodically complete Job Task Analysis to confirm skills of direct reports with respect to groundwater well readings, downloads, stream flows, well development, slug tests and any other hydrology or hydrogeology tasks outlined in permits or the site monitoring plan
  • Implement the site meteorology monitoring programs with support from consultants
  • Implement the site non-hazardous and hazardous waste management programs with support from consultants
  • Assist with preparation of permit applications and track approvals, or amendments as required
  • Involvement in leading preparation and execution of regulatory reporting (quarterly, annual)
  • Provide education and coaching of permit terms and conditions to all operating departments and how they relate to monitoring programs and reporting
  • Provide technical, administrative and project management support (i.e., assist with schedule, budget, scope changes, risk log, document control) for projects
  • Coordinate health and safety requirements (contractor/consultant) for implementing field programs, including spending time directly in the field as required
  • Commitment to Health & Safety and Cultural Awareness programs
  • Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, HSRC, Fisheries Act, etc.)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Hydrology/Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, or a related Natural Resources Management field preferred
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience, preferably in a mining environment with supervisory experience leading monitoring and compliance programs
  • Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
  • Current registration or eligible for registration in a professional discipline (e.g. EP, P.Ag, R.P.Bio.)
