Position summary

The Technical Officer's role operates within the National Research and Development Laboratory (NRDL) for Downer's Infrastructure Services - Road Services Division. You will support the R&D Sector Lead in Asphalt and the National R&D Laboratory Manager to deliver research projects plus asphalt mix designs (for specialised engineering applications, e.g. airports) and perform general QA work for our national business.

The NRDL is Downer's flagship laboratory, supporting R&D and consulting to a business that builds and maintains over 40,000km of roads nationally. We pride ourselves as leaders in the industry for innovation, technology and sustainability evidenced by initiatives such as the use of recyclates in our road materials, namely Reconophalt.

This will be an excellent opportunity for an experienced Technical Officer to contribute to furthering innovation and fostering change in the industry that we operate in.

ABOUT YOU
  • Tertiary Qualification in Science, Engineering or Materials (Background in Pavement Materials or Asphalt favourable)
  • Knowledge and experience in one of the following technology areas is desirable; Bituminous Binders, Asphalt Design, Pavement Engineering
  • Demonstrable and successful experience working in a Civil Engineering Technology Laboratory environment and quality system, preferably a NATA accredited facility is required
  • Experience in researching and understanding complex information to develop and implement technical solutions
  • A flair for problem-solving and formulating solutions
  • Strong safety focus - actively participate in and support Downer Zero Harm initiatives and strategies
  • Laboratory duties including sampling, sample preparation, testing, training, research, equipment checks, report preparation and maintenance in line with the laboratory quality system
  • Strong IT skills and medium to high-level user of MS Excel would be highly advantageous
