Redpath Mongolia LLC has an opening for a Shift Supervisor/Trainer to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia. The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.

Closing: April 27, 2021

Location: Oyu Tolgoi

Rotation: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off *Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions, the rotation may be amended. Once covid-19 travel restrictions are eased, you will return to the above roster. Current rotation estimate is 140 days: 3 weeks of quarantine on entry to Mongolia; 11 weeks of work at 14 days on 3 days off; 2 weeks of quarantine when returning to home country; 4 weeks off.

Shift Length: 12 hours

Travel: Flights provided from point of hire to job site

Job Description:

The primary role of the Shift Supervisor/Trainer is to supervise a mining crew on a day-to-day basis and ensure that the tasks assigned by the Mine Captain are completed as per instructions. The Shift Supervisor is to direct and coordinate the activities and tasks of the work crew, ensuring that all necessary resources are available and that each member of the crew is working safely.

The Shift Supervisor/Trainer will also be responsible for the development of National Shift Supervisors and will coach/mentor individuals to achieve competency.

Roles and Responsibilities:

General:
  • Carry out all directives of management. Read and sign all log books daily
  • Ensure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently by giving all employees job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitor progress
  • Assist in work scheduling and planning. Be aware of any changes of conditions in the workplace
  • Ensure all equipment is in good repair, have broken equipment scheduled for repair and make equipment available to mechanics when it is scheduled for preventative maintenance
  • Fill out all progress reports or accident/incident reports that happen during his/her shift
  • Ensure that all employees are properly trained to operate the equipment they will be using. If not, he will train them or arrange for training
  • Ensure employee safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, as well as company policy and regulations.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production concerns
  • Record in the shifter's log book any unsafe conditions or equipment requiring repairs
  • Understand, promote and operate by overall company vision and values, goals, objectives and strategies
  • Coach and Mentor Trainee National Shift Supervisors in the development of skills/knowledge to enable them to lead independently
  • Communicate routinely and effectively with the Mine Captain and other supervisory personnel as required
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage

Health, Safety & Environment
  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Following Company and Client health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Project Superintendent
  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. Lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that workers are qualified and capable of performing the assigned work safely
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
  • Comply with Oyu Tolgoi's Critical Risk Management (CRM) requirements.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education/Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Post-Secondary education in a mining related discipline or equivalent experience


Work Experience/Skills:
  • Minimum of 10 years hard rock experience with 5 years at the Supervisory level
  • International experience preferred with proficiency in developing local employees
  • Previous Front Line Supervisory certification such as Ontario Common Core, WA Supervisor's Certificate of Competency or equivalent an asset
  • Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety and Mines Regulations
  • Ability to lead through example
  • Requires strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Requires basic computer skills
  • Working knowledge of all production equipment
  • Ability to multi task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
