Northern Star (Pogo) LLC have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Senior Resource Geologist at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?

In this fast-paced and diverse role, you will report to the Geology Manager (Operations) and you will be responsible for the implementation and execution of geological tasks for the Underground mine. Duties include:

  • Delivering grade control and resource models with associated documentation.
  • Ensure the integrity of all grade control and resource models are sound before they are handed over to the engineering department. This will be achieved with the assistance of the senior mine geologists.
  • Liaising with production and drilling geologists to ensure drilling and mapping is planned and scheduled in order to allow timely delivery of estimations to meet operational and Northern Star corporate reserve deadlines.
  • Reviewing project areas to identify resource extension opportunities and additional resources, assist drilling geologists with any additional drilling required.
  • Management and delivery of grade control schedule to ensure alignment with operational requirements
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with Production and Mine Planning Engineers to ensure grade control schedule delivered meets operational requirements.
  • Accurate and timely completion and review of resource models and data tables to be submitted for the annual/bi-annual resource and reserve statements.
  • Monitor and report to Senior Mine Geologist and other stakeholders on the standards of the drill logging and face mapping information and ensure that they propose and implement suitable measures to correct problems that are rectified.
  • Monitor the drill schedule to ensure that it is meeting the requirements of the operation as well as the model schedule targets.
  • Monitor the management, quality and performance of assay laboratories used by site.
  • Design/maintain and monitor processes that ensure the integrity of all grade control and resource models for input into the overall mine plan.
  • Monitor the QAQC process and results and take the necessary actions to correct any anomalies identified through the process.
  • Regularly liaise with the Database Administrator regarding database integrity and supply guidance in developing relevant applications for use on site.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and statutory requirements in order to minimise Northern Star's risk exposure and liabilities.
  • Driving ongoing geological improvement by analysing existing processes and implementing enhancements.

What are we looking for?

You'll be a highly technical individual who will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

The specifics:

  • Minimum of 7 years underground geology experience in the mining industry, with at least 3 years' experience in resource modelling of a structurally complex, vein style gold deposit.
  • High level of competency in the use of modelling, geostatistics and estimation software (preferably Kriging).
  • Experienced in the use of Geological Software including Vulcan, Supervisor Leapfrog & Acquire.
  • Proven ability to develop a culture of high performance and behaviours that are consistent with agreed values
  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all geological tasks
  • Proven competency in ore body interpretations wireframing and a range of modelling estimation methodologies
  • Display a clear commitment to safety, health and responsible environmental management
  • Geology degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

The Details:

Working a 15/13-day schedule, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
