Reporting to the Director, Value Delivery, the Manager, Value Delivery, Orebody Knowledge Analytics is responsible for the development and execution of Teck’s Orebody Knowledge Analytics roadmap. Activities include evaluating opportunities for the application of advanced analytics to Orebody Knowledge and developing products based on found opportunities. You will also deploy products in coordination with our sites and subject matter specialists to achieve clearly demonstrable and sustainable business value.

Someone with strong analytical, planning and organizational skills, an ability to manage competing demands, and a high tolerance for ambiguity and constantly evolving environments. A demonstrated ability to lead a team of professionals composed of disparate proficiencies including analytics, orebody knowledge subject matter expertise, software development, systems integration, and continuous improvement is vital.

This role is an exciting opportunity to help enable Orebody Knowledge as a foundational element of groundbreaking innovation across the value chain by connecting it to our ongoing RACE21™ initiatives.

Responsibilities :

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Define and execute a portfolio of analytics products for Orebody Knowledge that has clear business cases, strong end user consensus, and is reflected in site plans and continuous improvement trackers
• Maintain initiatives at various stages of maturity to ensure a balanced pipeline
• Ensure projects are prioritized to reflect RACE21™ and site team capacity
• Provide direction to at least one digital team composed of internal Teck resources, consultants, and contractors for end-to-end delivery of digital analytics solutions
• Integrate efforts with other relevant RACE21™ teams
• Supervise and manage multiple external vendors

Qualifications :

• Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent experience is required
• Minimum ten years expertise in orebody knowledge and rock characterization
• Understanding of the risk and uncertainty associated with orebody variability across the mining value chain. This could include, but is not limited to, geoscience, coal quality, geo-metallurgy, and resource estimation and development
• Operational mine geology or engineering experience including ore sorting, ore tracking, and stockpile modelling, with some involvement in the development or deployment of advanced analytics in this domain
• An understanding of software development life cycle models, a knowledge of “agile” and traditional project management principles and practices, and the ability to blend them together
• A background in data science, data engineering, or software engineering in the resource industry would be desirable
• Familiarity with mine geoscience and engineering software packages, such as logging, modelling, geo-statistical, mine planning and dispatch tools
• On site experience in the resource industry leading continuous improvement teams
