It's an exciting time to be a part of Newcrest's growth journey as we expand our operations both locally and abroad. At Cadia you will play a part in the expansion of our Tier 1 operation developing Cadia into one of the largest, safest, most cost effective and technologically advanced block caving mines in the world. Currently we are undertaking stage three of Cadia's mine life strategy by further developing our underground mine to include its 3 rd panel, as well as increasing our ore handling and processing capability.

As a company, we are highly skilled at identifying and turning large-scale deposits into Tier 1 assets with one of the lowest all in sustaining costs in the mining industry. Our extensive experience in block caving, processing, utilising the latest technology and techniques positions us as a world leader in our field.

Operations near and far

Cadia Valley Operation is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area's occupied by winery's, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Employees have access to the area's wide range of amenities, including a prominent health sector with a modern well-equipped regional hospital, excellent educational facilities, shopping, large selection of sport and recreation options, transport and other services such as childcare.

Who we're looking for

We are seeking a responsible and motivated Underground Mine Supervisor to ensure safe and productive shift by shift operation of the underground mine at Cadia. Reporting to the Production Foreman, the role will see you place particular emphasis on the coordination and implementation of mining activities to achieve desired safety, quality, cost and schedule outcomes in line with the Supervisors Newsafe Behaviours.

Key deliverables include:
  • Aligning with and embedding Newcrest's safety culture, values and behaviours within your crew.
  • Management of Production levels which requires both direct supervision of your crew and any external work crews who are conducting work within these areas.
  • Scheduling of equipment and personnel to maximise efficiencies of crew in a manner which maximises safe conveyed tonnes and weekly plan outcomes.
  • Liaising with other operational areas to maximise underground performance (Fleet Maintenance, Development, Fixed Plant, and multiple service providers).
  • Involvement in preshift planning meeting with interdepartmental supervisors to ensure maximum usage of provided resources.
  • Provide leadership and offer coaching to operators through career development, training, coaching, performance management and leading by example.
  • Ensure Underground Mining Department budget quantities and costs are achieved.


This key leadership role will see you utilise your ability to build relationships with a diverse workforce and interface between different departments. Your commitment and passion to workplace health and safety, and the ability to promote a positive and productive team culture will be pivotal to your success.

In addition, you will also have:
  • Extensive production and development mining experience across all aspects of the mining cycle.
  • Experience in leading a large underground mining team.
  • Underground Mine Supervisor Practising Certificate.
  • Proven track record promoting and building upon a successful safety culture.
  • Adept in the use of Microsoft Office suite; SAP experience desirable.
  • Valid Manual Driver's Licence


Please note: This is a permanent role that will work a rotating 7 days, 7 off, 7 nights, 7 off roster.
