We are currently looking for a Field Hydrogeologist to join our Water Resource Evaluation (WRE) department for Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO). Working on a FIFO 8 days on; 6 days off roster you will provide technical leadership and oversight to RTIO's Hydrogeological Field programs. Within the Resource Development Division for RTIO, this role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join one of the largest inhouse dedicated teams of field hydrogeologists.

You will be part of a field-based team of hydrogeologists and technical officers whose remit is to support execution of the hydrogeological field program. The program is integral to the ongoing management of water-related risk to our operations in the Pilbara and encompasses a diverse array of activities spanning drilling, aquifer testing and groundwater monitoring.

Reporting to the Senior Field Hydrogeologist, you will be responsible for:
  • Supervising technical aspects of the hydrogeological drilling, installation and aquifer testing of water supply, dewatering and groundwater monitoring infrastructure
  • Daily collection, entry and interpretation of hydrogeological data; writing of field program completion reports, and conducting analyses of aquifer testing data
  • Providing active safety and technical leadership of field programs
  • Working collaboratively with the WRE hydrogeologists and contract partners to execute the scope of works
  • Maintaining adherence to scientific method in the execution of hydrogeological investigations

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • An unrestricted 'C' Class Driver's Licence
  • A minimum bachelor's degree in a relevant Hydrogeology or Geosciences field
  • Commitment to health, safety and environment, promoting positive behaviour and a supportive safety culture through visible leadership
  • Be highly attuned to issues of hydrogeological data capture, quality control and information workflow
  • Previous experience in hydrogeological field investigations will be considered favourably; and
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a dynamic team environment.
