Survey Leader
Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Purpose
Lead the Short Term Planning (STP) group to provide mine engineering support to Mine Operations by performing a variety of engineering duties in the areas of Pit, Waste dump, Stockpiles and projects. Generate weekly, monthly and quarterly mine plans and efficiently communicate with management and stakeholders. Reconcile and analyze actual performance and come up with improvement opportunities.
Essential Duties
Health & Safety
Deliver own prescribed outcomes and / or provide support services, by applying Newmont's Health, Safety and Environment systems, policies and protocols.
Comply with all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont's Integrated Management System.
Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his/her supervision.
Assure that safety standards are adhered to.
Attend monthly safety inspections and meetings.
Operational Excellence & Growth
Manage weekly and monthly plan processes and present plans to stakeholders.
Reconcile and analyze plan assumptions with actual performance and come up with improvement opportunities.
Strong computer skills including but not limited to MS Office suite
Competency to operate standard business software and application specialized software with a high level of skill and accuracy.
Have a clear understanding in open pit mining engineering principles such as ore body description, block model, geometrical considerations, geotechnical engineering, surveying, drill and blast, pit limit analysis, pit and phase designs, waste dump designs, road construction, production scheduling and engineering economic analysis.
Detail knowledge of mine design and planning software such as Maptek Vulcan
Ability to produce pit and phase designs
Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities
Ability to generate and present daily and weekly mine plans
Detail knowledge of equipment requirements calculation and related software such as Talpac
Detail knowledge of costing
Detail knowledge of cutoff grade calculations and be able to apply them in mine planning
Ability to generate and present monthly mine plans
Detail knowledge of mining economy for applications in mine planning and project
Detail knowledge of Investment System and ability to manage processes
Ability to coordinate with D&B Engineers, Mine Ops, Geotech groups and lead daily and monthly planning and reconciliation
Lead and manage forecast and budget processes
Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities using the Full Potential (FP) model

Training & Experience
Knowledge:

Working Conditions
- The position is located on the Merian mine site in Suriname, working in the open mine maintenance workshop and performing maintenance in the mine operations area outdoors. The administrative part of the work will be performed in a shared office.
- Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment;
- Accommodation is in a man camp/village environment near the workplace
