We are looking for a Senior Advisor Business Analysis, to join the Copper Business Analysis team. We're a dynamic, focused advisory function and key contributor to the strategic direction of Rio Tinto. Our highly capable independent professionals provide insightful and timely commercial advice and analytical support to facilitate well-informed decisions and create value to the Copper (RTC) portfolio. We provide strategic insights, with support to the Group Investment Committee; overall Business strategy and Plan financial submissions.

The role exists to identify value improvement opportunities through rigorous analysis of: the business; market; and, investment evaluation as part of RTC corporate level decision making. The main areas of focus are:
  • support key decisions underpinning the Oyu Tolgoi growth asset; and
  • consolidate the RTC portfolio asset valuation and articulate the group growth story

Reporting to the Manager, Business Analysis and working in a collaborative community, a challenging and exciting environment, and a diverse team, you will:
  • Assess, value and influence major investment proposals, including preparing proposals for the Investment Committee and Board
  • Engage with the business to assess the financial viability and evaluate projects, using financial modelling you will understand key drivers to optimise project value
  • Define assumptions for analysis of investments, acquisitions or divestitures
  • Participate in the development of long-range financial forecasts and related budgets, considering alternative scenarios and economic prospects
  • Review and provide recommendations on capital expenditure applications, contracts, major operating cost decisions and post investment reviews
  • Provide commercial and analytical support to the operations leadership team
  • Undertake project work designed to identify opportunities for continuous improvement

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, in Business, Economics or Engineering is essential. An MBA or other relevant post graduate qualification is highly desirable
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial and operational roles, with previous experience in mining and resource industries highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a global business across organizational and geographical interfaces
  • Outstanding financial evaluation and modelling expertise, including high levels of competence with MS Excel
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and effective communication skills
