About the role

We are looking for a Manager Refinery Production to help us leading an operations team in a complex, technical, and large-scale mineral processing environment. This role is a member of the plant leadership team. The incumbent and their team are responsible for safe and efficient production of copper, gold and silver. The role is instrumental in ensuring product quality, continuously improving existing processes, managing budgets, and developing team capability. The role is responsible for managing capital spend and preparing production budgets.

Reporting to the Manager Refinery and Rail Operations and working in a collaborative environment, you will:
  • Deliver annual production budget and quarterly production for forecasts for all products
  • Recognize potential near-term and long-term problems and opportunities, working with RTK peers to develop the most value
  • Evaluate process efficiency, identify process problems and recommend solutions
  • Analyze all elements in waste stream, evaluate process of recovery, and analyze financial feasibility of recovery
  • Drive the generation of improvement and cost-saving ideas, and trend and quantify value generated by projects to track against targets and ensure timely completion
  • Direct the preparation of CEAs to replace existing equipment or purchase additional equipment
  • Routinely performs quality Health, Safety and Environment ("HSE") compliance audits and interactions to ensure that workplace hazards are identified and eliminated and ensure that all personnel are following plant and area safety and environmental systems, procedures and standards
  • Take an active role in the performance management and development of employees within the department
  • Set direction for Performance, Incentive and Development Planning Processes
  • Provide high level guidance to the wider Refinery Team in achieving goals by obtaining feedback from internal/external customers and suppliers to improve performance

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in the field of chemical engineering or electrochemistry, or hydrochemistry preferred
  • Experience in project leadership, project management, change management and cross functional team leadership using indirect influence to make change, rather than authority
  • Process diagnosis within the primary metals industry smelting and/or refining
  • Root Cause Analysis methods
  • Experience in employee performance evaluation (setting expectations and evaluating delivery), development and recruitment of employees along with practical experience in Industrial Relations
  • Experience setting up and driving a lean production methodology

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and managing regulatory relationships
  • Experience setting up and driving a lean production methodology
  • Lean Six Sigma Certified

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
