Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their Power & Utilities Team at their Lihir Gold Operations (LGO) in Papua New Guinea.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Technician - Instrumentation for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Electrical & Instrumentation, you will be required to provide day-to-day technical maintenance and mechanical services and repair of industrial instrumentations and equipment associated with the Power & Utilities areas.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Carry out maintenance tasks as directed by immediate Supervisor, in accordance with established procedures and NML HSE requirements.
  • Undertake regular mechanical inspections of power and utility areas as directed.
  • Support all engines, turbines, and auxiliary equipment by maintaining a high level of understanding of the power station's operational activities including fault diagnosis, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Effectively operates diesel engines, steam turbines, and auxiliary equipment in accordance with safe operating procedures to ensure sufficient and consistent power is provided to all end users.
  • Utilise SCADA and Wartsila WOIS- the computerised control system to monitor engine parameters and adjust variables to ensure consistent provision of power to end-users.
  • Operate, monitor, and service all outstation plant and equipment including waste heat boilers, oil fired boilers, heavy fuel oil separators, fuel/day tanks, sludge incinerator, chlorination, and demineralisation plants, on-site standby generators.
  • Act as relief Leading Hand in the absence of the Leading Hand - Mechanical if required.


Essential criteria
  • Relevant Trade certificate and/or qualification in Instrumentation and/ Electronics essential.
  • PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
  • 3-5 years post-trade maintenance experience essential in heavy industry preferably within power and utilities or mining environment.
  • Relevant experience in maintaining equipment in the Power and Utilities area.


Desirable criteria
  • Electrical License (highly desirable)
  • Any previous instrumentation experience within mining, power, or oil and gas industries (highly desirable).
  • Current CPR/LVR
  • Confined space, working at heights tickets.
  • Computer proficiency in SAP & MS Office suite.


The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
