The Role
We are seeking an experienced Technician - Instrumentation for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Electrical & Instrumentation, you will be required to provide day-to-day technical maintenance and mechanical services and repair of industrial instrumentations and equipment associated with the Power & Utilities areas.
The role will have responsibility to:
- Carry out maintenance tasks as directed by immediate Supervisor, in accordance with established procedures and NML HSE requirements.
- Undertake regular mechanical inspections of power and utility areas as directed.
- Support all engines, turbines, and auxiliary equipment by maintaining a high level of understanding of the power station's operational activities including fault diagnosis, repairs, and equipment performance.
- Effectively operates diesel engines, steam turbines, and auxiliary equipment in accordance with safe operating procedures to ensure sufficient and consistent power is provided to all end users.
- Utilise SCADA and Wartsila WOIS- the computerised control system to monitor engine parameters and adjust variables to ensure consistent provision of power to end-users.
- Operate, monitor, and service all outstation plant and equipment including waste heat boilers, oil fired boilers, heavy fuel oil separators, fuel/day tanks, sludge incinerator, chlorination, and demineralisation plants, on-site standby generators.
- Act as relief Leading Hand in the absence of the Leading Hand - Mechanical if required.
Essential criteria
- Relevant Trade certificate and/or qualification in Instrumentation and/ Electronics essential.
- PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
- 3-5 years post-trade maintenance experience essential in heavy industry preferably within power and utilities or mining environment.
- Relevant experience in maintaining equipment in the Power and Utilities area.
Desirable criteria
- Electrical License (highly desirable)
- Any previous instrumentation experience within mining, power, or oil and gas industries (highly desirable).
- Current CPR/LVR
- Confined space, working at heights tickets.
- Computer proficiency in SAP & MS Office suite.
The Requirements
- Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
- Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
