Introduction to Bisha Mining Share Company

BMSC is an Eritrean company formed for the development and operation of the Bisha Mine in western Eritrea, Africa.  It is owned by Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd. (55%) and the Eritrean National Mining Corporation (ENAMCO) (45%). The Bisha Mine is a high-grade copper, gold, silver and zinc mine that commenced production in February 2011. The Bisha Mine has received continuous support from the Eritrean government, who granted the Company's mining license in January 2008. The project is the first modern mine in Eritrea.   

After two years of low cost gold production, the Bisha Mine transitioned to low-cost, high-grade copper production in 2013.  Starting in 2016, Bisha also produces zinc concentrate. Further resource potential exists at depth and from nearby discoveries within the Company's licensed areas.

The site is a well-established site with excellent catering and recreational facilities. The site also offers Wi-Fi internet coverage throughout the village as well international TV and a full gymnasium. Security ranks with best in the world and employees mountain bike freely.  Expatriates work a roster of 10 weeks on and 5 weeks off; we offer on-site medical services as well as company medical, accident death and disability and life insurance (employee only); Employees are provided with private rooms with en-suite toilet and shower facilities; Working hours at Bisha are Monday to Saturday from 6am to 6pm with a one hour lunch break and Sundays from 6am to 12pm with the afternoon off.

The successful candidate will earn a salary which is market related. Contract is for a period of 02 (two) Years.

Primary Purpose

  • The primary purpose of this job is to manage and coordinate the activities of the underground feasibility study to maximise the recovery of the resource and to ensure that the project remains on schedule and within budget.

Main Functions

Leadership

  • Provide strong leadership for the Feasibility team.
  • Ensure that the companies’ core values are upheld and lead by example.

SHEC

  • Ensure that all employees and contractors are aware of their SHEC responsibilities and follow company policies.
  • Develop a risk management approach to the feasibility activities and ensure that high risk controls are audited.
  • Ensure that all SHEC actions are completed on time and to the required standard.

Planning

  • Develop the scope of works for the underground feasibility study.
  • Plan and coordinate the activities for the feasibility study.
  • Activities include but are not limited to geometallurgical, hydrological, geotechnical and mine planning.
  • Prepare tender documents for any contracts and carry out the contract selection process.
  • Liaise with and manage external consultants and contractors to undertake the feasibility study activities.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders including senior management and the Technical Services department.  
  • Ensure that all data collection practices are supported with systems. 
  • Ensure current systems are documented and allow for consistent quality output.

Reporting

  • Ensure that all reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly) is completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Conduct regular meetings with consultants and share the documented minutes with senior management.
  • Track and report physical activities and cost variances to the project schedule each month.
  • Prepare and present Board Notes to the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare documentation for the inclusion to the NI43-101 external report to the required standard and on time.

Human Resource Management

  • Recruit and retain quality people with appropriate skill sets.
  • Manage people’s expectations so that they are in-line with the companies’ goals.
  • Provide sufficient resources to employees and consultants so that the work can be undertaken effectively.
  • Manage all human resource related issues within the Feasibility Study team.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mining, Geology or Metallurgy (Hons) is essential.
  • Post graduate qualification in Mineral Economics or MBA is desirable.
  • Membership of a recognized international mining professional organization e.g. AusIMM, SAIMM, CIM.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 20 years’ experience in the mining industry.
  • 10+ years working in underground operations is essential.
  • 5+ years working on feasibility studies is essential.
  • Experience in zinc or other base metal mining is essential.
  • International experience is desirable particularly in Africa.
  • Broad understanding of other industry disciplines.
  • Experience managing contractors and consultants.
  • Strong knowledge of NI 43-101.
  • Knowledge of the Sarbanes- Oxley-Act (SOX).

Technical Skills

  • Computer Literacy - Advanced MS Office Project & Excel
  • Intermediate Surpac software.
  • Mine production and grade control practices.
  • Metallurgy practices/principles.
  • Mineral project economics.
  • Analytical techniques (QA/QC).
  • Technical Report Writing.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Budget preparation and cost management.
