We are looking for people with a love of ML and AI product delivery to join Rio Tinto's growing group of analytics engineering professionals in the Brisbane Hub of "PACE Analytics", our internal Data-Science team.

About the role

We're looking for Machine-Learning Engineers and Software Engineers to join our Brisbane hub, with a focus on Product Delivery across a range of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence opportunities.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor - Data Science, and working in collaboration with a range of product groups and disciplines within Rio Tinto, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Participate in ML product and systems development across a range of industrial processes.
  • Explore POCs and technical spikes, helping to inform the ML Engineering, MDLC, and SRE landscape.
  • Evolve and socialise our Product Management, Quality, and Knowledge Management processes within the organisation.
  • Mentor and grow other emerging developers and technical experts in the organisation.
  • Focus on Safety, Ethics, Cybersecurity, and IP, in the context of both engineering and the broader Rio Tinto.

Your network in this role consists of Data Scientists, Product Delivery and Cloud Engineering teams within PACE Analytics, and a broader community of end users, subject-matter experts, technical peers, and citizen data scientists in a range of skills and disciplines within Rio Tinto.

What You'll Bring
  • A history of software product delivery or data systems engineering, with a focus on Big Data, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence solutions.
  • Confidence in helping PACE mature our Model Development Lifecycles, Product Quality Processes, Peer Review Practices, and related development practices.
  • Qualifications or experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, ML Engineering, or similar fields.

Other skills and attributes considered for the role
  • Time-series, spatial, relational, and image data storage and processing.
  • Streaming, batching, micro-batching, versioning, and serialisation processes for data.
  • Python, R, Java, yaml, toml, HCL2, bash language mix.
  • Libraries and frameworks such as pandas, Tidyverse, Pytorch, PySpark, Scikit-learn, and related ML libs.
  • Tools such as DVC, Terraform, Azure DevOps, Docker, VSCode, PyCharm.
  • Infrastructure like AWS cloud, Postgres, Timescale, Airflow, Sagemaker, ECS, Lambda, Glue, AzureML, Linux.
  • Test and Automation tools, CI/CD for ML, Pytest, MyPy, etc.
  • Exposure to software engineering practices and culture, peer review processes, and development lifecycles.
