About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor Platform Technical Lead, to ensure that all technical delivery complies with the appropriate Rio Tinto standards and design principles as well as the Operational Data Platform (ODP) blueprint itself. This role is responsible for the development and management of the ODP architecture through engagement with external partners to keep abreast of emerging, value contributing technology as well as the business to maintain alignment to business need. The role also performs quality assurance activities as part of delivery

Reporting to the Manager Data Platforms and working in collaborative and exciting environment within our global IS&T Operations team, you will:
  • Be the single accountable "owner" of the Operational Data Platform (ODP) technical architecture in order to drive alignment and standardisation of platform deployments across Rio Tinto;
  • Be accountable for the overall quality assurance of the ODP blueprint and deployments, including the successful completion of QA checkpoints;
  • Ensure the overall platform blueprint and architecture is continually evolved and improved balancing business requirements, standardisation, industry leading technology/practices;
  • Embed Agile methodology (and Azure DevOps) into the way we work to ensure delivery/support teams deliver outcomes efficiently to the customer and to ensure repeatability exists within deployments to drive standardization;
  • Review and rate external services contracts, emerging technology, identify issues and assess solution options against data platforms architecture to ensure maximum return on investment for Rio Tinto;
  • Support business units by investigating operations-related problems/inquiries, coordinate solutions and building business cases;
  • Drive quality outcomes for the business by ensuring an adequate test strategy is in place and is being executed;
  • Ensure development/support teams are adequately versed with the platform architecture, standards, "how to's", learnings through the provision of reference materials, training material, coaching forums so as to minimise divergence/bespoke development and manage escalations
  • Manage vendors and partners deliverables and expectations to ensure the best interest of Rio Tinto are always met;
  • Develop roadmaps with IST BP's and other key stakeholders to ensure the ODP platform remains alignment to business objectives and is delivering on business priorities;
  • Challenge the current thinking and work with the required SME's both internal and external to assess design alternatives and provide recommendations to Strategy & Architecture team;
  • Provides the necessary technical leadership to design teams to develop solutions for highly complex areas with requirements spanning multiple Product Groups and stakeholders

What you'll bring
  • Experience with Agile Delivery Methodology
  • Work with geographically dispersed teams;
  • Previous solution architecture roles across operational & business systems/projects
  • Proven experience using the Microsoft Azure solution stack
  • Strong experience in engaging IT disciplines to ensure business alignment of solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills including ability to interact well to GM level
  • Ability to build consensus and capture & develop expertise in business processes
  • Demonstrated understanding of full solution delivery lifecycle, esp. analysis, PM and RTP methods
  • Ability to share new findings and best practices
  • Self-motivated, excellent team player
  • Current or completion of study of relevant degree (desirable)
  • Working in IT a global / multi-national, diversified corporation
  • Working with multiple stakeholders, in multiple regions with varying time-zones
  • Working in an outsourced environment
