About the role

Reporting to the Health & Safety Superintendent, you will:
  • Provide advice and support with implementation of legislated health and safety requirements;
  • Support and coach leaders and Contractor Partners to build their safety leadership and performance capabilities;
  • Deliver the Safety Maturity Model improvement action plan;
  • Embed and sustain critical risk management (CRM) practices across site;
  • Focus on injury prevention and wellbeing program support for site teams;
  • Assist with risk management and control evaluations for work areas/tasks;
  • Champion H&S fundamentals through engagement, coaching and training program delivery (e.g. pre-starts, LiF, Take 5, JHA, etc);
  • Coach, support and influence leaders with the utilisation of safety tools and standards (CRM, MoC, incident management system, ChemAlert);
  • Support governance processes and programs (first line assurance, business conformance audits and regulatory assessments);
  • Assist, train and coach operational teams in incident management including investigations, reporting and corrective action development;
  • Conduct H&S data quality assurance / quality control, analysis, review and reporting processes to drive performance improvements;
  • Provide support to the Senior Specialist Environment and/or Hygiene Advisor(s) to assist with compliance requirements on an as-needed basis.

What you'll bring
  • Experience working in an operational or projects health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety practices
  • Tertiary Health and Safety Qualification
  • Strong engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively coach leaders and contractor teams
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities & supporting multiple stakeholder groups with strong problem solving skills
  • Computer skills including experience using prospect reporting tools, PowerBI, Archer and Microsoft office suite
  • Adaptability, flexibility and resourcefulness
  • Solutions based mind-set
  • Contractor management with a focus on partnerships

Where you'll be working

Winu is a 100% Rio Tinto owned copper-gold mineralisation project in the Yeneena Basin of the Paterson Province in Western Australia. The project is located approximately 130 km north of the Telfer mine and 350 km southeast of Port Hedland. Teams at Winu are taking an agile approach to greenfield project development and being innovative in the way we bring a mine from exploration to production.

This role is for applicants residing in or willing to permanently relocate to Western Australia. Rio Tinto offers fly in and fly out options from Perth, our regional FIFO hubs and the opportunity to live in our residential towns where applicable.
