Position summary
Exciting full-time fixed term opportunity (24 months) for a Project Procurement Manager to join our team in NSW North Ryde or QLD - Brisbane.
We are looking for a Project Procurement Manager to join our Rolling Stock Services (RSS) business to support our Commercial Bid initiatives. This is a great opportunity to join a market leader and be a driver in some of our key procurement projects.
You'll be working with a team of highly skilled procurement professionals; you'll drive innovative ways of working and managing change, leading to significant year-on-year savings. The primary purpose of the role is to understand overall customer needs and support the bids team in delivering value to successfully win new business with sustainable EBIT growth, through long term contracts. This will be achieved by working within the RSS strategic procurement framework and in particular working in partnership with the RSS Procurement Category Managers.
You will deliver reduced overall cost and service improvement for our business through the negotiation and management of supply and services contracts. Also, critical to your success in this position is the management of relationships with key Downer stakeholders and relevant vendors (both existing and potential).

Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and manage project procurement plans to ensure value for money, high levels of service and compliance with procedures and professional best practice
- Work closely with Procurement Leaders in the delivery of agreed objectives, in-line with the Downer RSS strategic procurement roadmap.
- To manage contracts at an operational level including management of suppliers and internal customers and to drive improvement initiatives to address under performance.
- To manage ongoing supplier performance to relevant KPIs and report results back to the business.
- Establish key strategic alliances with suppliers, coupled with internal stakeholder management of complex relationships with a focus on delivery of cost reduction, cost mitigation and long-term sustainable benefits to the business.
- Function as a key member of the Procurement Team, supporting essential projects within the Project Management Services line, optimising quality and reliability of all rolling stock.
Ideally, you will have the following skills and experience:
- MCIPS preferred combined with an Engineering, Law &/or Commerce degree or similar qualifications
- Exposure to Rolling Stock, Engineering or similar will be highly desirable
- The ability to lead and manage complex negotiations and improve on supplier performance
- Proven experience in sourcing strategies and competitive sourcing
- Proficient in procurement best practice, with experience in implementing them in a commercial, multinational environment
- Proven experience of extracting value by developing market innovations with key strategic partners
