About the role

We are looking for a Manager: HSE to lead and manage the Health and Safety Department in an efficient and cost-effective manner, ensuring the transfer of HSE requirements into full corporate and legislative compliance with minimum adverse effects on the Operations of RBM. To guide the organisation to health and safety performance levels beyond compliance

Reporting to the HSE Business Partner and working in a collaborative community within the HSE team, you will:
  • Provide specialised leadership to the Health and Safety team.
  • Develop and implement the health and safety strategy and ensure compliance and alignment to the relevant legislation and to Rio Tinto standards.
  • Analyse problems and impact of health and safety issues and develop and implement strategies to address them.
  • Optimise resource utilisation and ensure continuous improvement throughout department.
  • Promote a culture where safety emphasizes personal awareness and responsibility.
  • Ensure safe practices, systems and processes are applicable as well as comply with Mine, Health and Safety legislation, OHS Act and RT policies, standards and procedures.

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team (standard for all job adverts)
  • Degree/National Diploma in Occupational Safety /Safety Management / Engineering or Natural Sciences
  • MDP or alternate Business Management qualification advantageous
  • 5 years' HSE experience at Superintendent level in a mining/industrial environment
  • Valid Drivers' licence
  • Intermediate computer literacy (MS Office & SAP)
  • Well-developed interpersonal and people management skills
  • Sound judgment, analytical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Well-developed negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to manage change
