About the Role

We are looking for a Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Specialist to join the reliability team at Rio Tinto Kennecott. This role will use PdM technologies to identify equipment failures in their infancy thereby allowing maintenance to be performed on a scheduled basis. The PdM specialist is responsible and accountable for safely collecting, analyzing and reporting on the general health of critical assets.

At Rio Tinto we have operations across the globe including a range of open pit and underground mines that supply copper and diamonds. Our copper operations supply products in China, Japan and the US which plays an important role in almost every home, office and vehicle. We are also one of the world's leading diamond producers and the largest producer of natural coloured diamonds.

This role is a great opportunity to build your technical knowledge base and further your career as a reliability professional. Reporting to the Superintendent - Reliability, you will be:
  • Performing inspections, data interpretation, and reporting for various PdM technologies
  • Recommending repairs based on PdM data, evaluating the quality of the repairs, and providing feedback
  • Creating maintenance notifications when a need for maintenance is identified
  • Creating equipment health summary reports
  • Participating in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of general maintenance experience and 2+ years of relevant PdM experience
  • Formal certification or experience with some of the following PdM technologies: vibration, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonics, weld inspection, and non-destructive testing
  • Understanding of basic math and physics for quick comprehension of PdM techniques
  • Basic computer skills such as email, data management, data input, data analysis and PdM software
  • Basic Excel skills including basic formatting, formulas, charts/graphs and manipulation of data, Word and Power Point

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Training/experience in: Motor Current Evaluation, Root Cause Analysis, Failure Analysis & SAP
  • Experience in a heavy industrial setting

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
