What You’ll Do:

Production Levels. Ensure that production levels are at an optimum with minimal downtime. Coordinate operations activities with sales projections and long-range planning.

Environmental Compliance. Work closely with the environmental department to ensure that all required testing of material is performed according to prescribed protocols. Provide direct supervision to testing personnel.

Maintenance Program. Proper utilization and maintenance of all stationary and mobile equipment so that equipment cost and downtime are minimized and the equipment is available when needed.

Safety, Health, and Environment. Be proactive in the safety of all personnel and activities in the plant area. Inspect and maintain dust control systems to ensure a healthy work environment. Be knowledgeable of waste products, their impact on the environment, and their proper disposal.

Supervision. Provide an example of good leadership, keep open, effective lines of communication with division staff and plant level personnel. Work in conjunction with McCook supervisory personnel on special projects, budgeting, cost control, and community relations activities. Provide supervisory relief as directed by the Area Operations Manager.

Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.Skills You’ll Need:

Education. BS in mining, civil or mechanical engineering preferred. Courses in Business Administration, Engineering, or Environmental Science are desirable if the candidate does not hold a BS degree. High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.

Experience. Preferred 3 years experience in mining/processing/maintenance. Experience in the management of union employees. Experience in the management of Safety, Health, and Environment.

Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships. Ability to plan and manage effectively. Must represent VMC in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel.

Operational Knowledge. Knowledge of mining and production techniques and equipment, safety and environmental regulations (MSHA and OSHA), equipment application and operation, material specifications, and surveying.

Interpersonal Skills. Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills including conflict resolution.

Computer Skills. Basic computer skills.
