Reporting to the Environmental Technical Supervisor, the Environmental Technician is responsible for the day to day collection of field samples and data, and implementation of specific regulatory, permit or other requirements that apply to Red Dog as assigned and to determine the best technology to use in order to remain compliant with various permits and regulations.

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks onsite, 2 weeks off-site

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Coordinate the collection, recording and processing of environmental samples and measurements to fulfill defined environmental monitoring requirements
  • Prepare and follow a schedule and set of procedures, which will ensure the shipment of samples to appropriate laboratories within the required time periods
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate sampling and safety procedures for the collection of environmental data (proper labeling, clean sampling and handling techniques) to ensure there’s no negative impact on test results
  • Maintain proper field notes and documentation as well as various adhoc reports related to regulatory, legal, permitting or compliance purposes through the use of spreadsheet, word processing and database software
  • Participate in data collection that is primarily outside and often requires travel by vehicle, helicopter, small aircraft, foot, boat or snow-machine and ensures work is completed safely while in an Arctic environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as complies with safety policies and procedures and ensures daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
  • Other Duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must have basic skills in Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Must have valid Driver's License
  • Prior environmental or similar experience preferred
  • Strong team cooperation is required
  • Ability to perform all tasks with limited direction
  • Must work safely and follow instructions
  • Must be willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • A desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Environmental department
  • Must have good organization and observation skills
  • Must have strong communicate skills
