Our Team:

Our corporate office, located in downtown Toronto serves as the headquarters for the global Base Metals business, providing support to all our Base Metals operations. In Mississauga, you’ll find Vale’s Base Metals Technology Development team; a group of highly trained engineers and scientists working to improve Vale’s competitive edge and support its growth strategies by coming up with safer and more environmentally responsible technology.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Specialist, Capacity Analytics to join our Base Metals team in Toronto. This is a permanent position.
  • To improve processes and asset performance through analysis, competitiveness, integrated solutions and knowledge sharing in the Base Metals global value chain.
  • Use advanced analytics, Big Data, AI and other techniques to achieve new levels of performance and productivity for the value chain across Base Metals
  • Identify high-impact opportunities in performance and productivity for processes and assets applying advance analytics together with our Global IT teams.


About You
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar subject area
  • Undergraduate degree in required (Computer Science, Business, Finance or a related field)
  • Identifying and enabling new technical references of performance and capacity for processes and assets by continuously challenging the Status Quo, aiming for large operational leaps and capacity increase.
  • Implement a new performance and competitiveness model, jointly with our global IT teams, driven by advanced analysis that identifies potential value to be captured through analytics, modeling and simulation techniques throughout the Base Metals value chain.
  • Governance and standardization of Vale's technical processes to define capacity, bottlenecks and value drivers, and monitor/report compliance with applicable indicators
  • Definition, standardization, reporting and monitoring of the best internal and external benchmarking of performance and capacity.
  • Together with our Global IT and Technology and Innovation teams, develop and implement the best analytical solutions with innovation and technology that are replicable, scalable and of high impact in the value chain.
  • Together with our Global IT and Technology and Innovation teams, Develop and implement control centers, simulators and optimizers for the integrated chain.
  • Apply advanced statistical tools for analyzing and predicting conditions, trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Challenge capabilities along the value chain when conducting business analysis
  • Create an effective performance information system, with standardized and reliable indicators and dashboards.
  • Observe and internalize the Global Capacity Model to establish productivity goals and prioritize improvements initiatives
  • Provide the Integrated Business Planning team with the official capacity assumptions in obtaining the overall optimal plan.
  • Provide specialized technical analytical consulting and expertise to support requests from operations and projects.
  • Improve operational performance through the development of optimization models and advanced statistical analytics, condition prediction tools, integrated simulators and the Asset Management Panel of the Integrated Planning Process
  • Define set-points for operations based on advanced analysis techniques and develops measurement standards for asset performance management
