Ontario Team:

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electro cobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Supt, L&D Infrastructure Projects & Training Centre to join our Human Resources department in Sudbury. This is a 2 year fixed term position.
  • This role will project manage the completion of development and implementation of the 114 Training Centre and related Training Streams aligned to the strategy, objectives and commitments agreed by the Operations leadership team. This includes leading a team to effectively develop and implement a strategy and detailed workplan to deliver on objectives and commitments.
  • The Project Manager is also responsible for execution and continual improvement of various learning programs associated with 114 Training Centre including the Miners in Training Program, Health & Safety Training and Advanced Mining Skills Training.
  • This role will also be responsible for the design and implementation of Vale DOJOs across the North Atlantic operating sites in collaboration with the Vale global team. This work will involve collaborating with global teams and N Operations to build strong partnerships with various internal customers and external partners and stakeholders.


About You
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar subject area
  • Community college education required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Develop and implement a detailed project management strategy and work plan to execute the commitments for the 114 Training Centre and related learning programs
  • Lead and develop a team to deliver learning programs offered and to improve the quality of these learning programs to support Company transformation and other initiatives, as well as meet the needs of internal customers in a cost effective and efficient way
  • Put processes, routines and programs in place, to support integration of graduates from 114 Training Centre, who are new recruits, into the work environment in the mines & plants by collaborating with operational teams, mine & plant managers, superintendents and supervisors
  • Explore and develop additional opportunities of the 114 Training Centre to deliver training and skill proficiency to the business and become an innovation and research hub
  • Manage the 114 Training Centre as an operating asset in a safe way with zero harm, ensure all risk management, health & safety procedures and protocols are in place in collaboration with North Atlantic Mine operations, tin order to deliver a safe learning environment for all, including new hires that are unfamiliar with a mining environment
  • Develop potential of 114 Training Centre as a practical learning center and potentially income generating space to demonstrate return on investment, including management of construction of permanent infrastructure
  • Ensure all training aligns with relevant organizational policies, health and safety regulations, employment legislation and regulatory requirements where applicable
  • Develop and implement DOJOs as practical learning spaces in accordance with Vale global standards and requirements and with conformance to global standards and branding formats and criteria.
