Who we're looking for:

We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to prepare and review geotechnical engineering advice to ensure that our open pit mining operations and underground development are performed safely. Reporting to the Manager -Technical Services you will provide technical support and advice to planning and operational teams to comply with ground control recommendations and standards. Responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
  • Implement, review and update the Ground Control Management Plan and the Slope Management Plan.
  • Develop and implement a pit slope optimisation program with the intent of optimising pit slopes and safe operations
  • Ensure that the required geotechnical data for open pit mining, underground development and underground studies is collected and appropriately stored.
  • Manage geotechnical aspects of site based (Operational ) studies and oversee execution
  • Undertake reviews of the Block Cave Studies (Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility) and project execution
  • Apply industry standard and leading practice methodologies to geotechnical assessments of the open pit and underground.
  • Partake in Life of Asset Planning and provide Geotechnical input to the plans
  • Communicate key risks and opportunities with the site management team

The successful candidate will have the followings skills, abilities and experience:
  • BSc (minimum) in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering (or related)
  • A minimum of 15 years combined Open Pit and Underground ground support / design experience
  • Block Cave design and engineering experience is preferred
  • Modelling of ground conditions in both the open pit and block cave environments
  • Proven experience managing engineering consultants
  • The ability to deliver the geotechnical components of mining studies through detailed design and risk analysis/mitigation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing team, safely and effectively
