Our Red Chris mine is located on the traditional territory of the Tahltan and we encourage qualified applicants from the local communities to apply. We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George and Smithers.

Who we're looking for:

We require a Chief Geologist to provide effective management of the geological function in our operation to maximise metal recovery and mine head grade at all stages of the mining process. Reporting to the Manager - Technical Services you will assess and prioritise near mine resource potential to maximise the life of mine value. You will be responsible for the following:
  • Maintaining an impeccable focus on safety across the site.
  • Ensure the technical capability of the Geology team is developed to the required level to execute both operational and resource development requirements.
  • Act as the Qualified Person for Mineral Resources as defined in National Instrument 43-101.
  • Deliver cost effective ore control and deposit knowledge activities for both open pit and future underground operations that provide all required geological attributes to maximise value from mining and processing.
  • Manage the Mining Value Chain Reconciliations making sure that the key value driving metrics are measured and tracked to ensure a continuous improvement cycle of inputs is delivered.
  • Undertake near mine targeting within the Red Chris deposit to ensure maximum value is captured.
  • Deliver resource development programs to meet technical, cost, safety, and timing objectives.
  • Ensure key Newcrest safety initiatives of Newsafe, Critical Control Management and Process Safety are embedded in geology team culture.
  • Develop and deliver key value initiatives through business improvement processes.

The successful applicant will have minimum of 15 years combined experience in Open Pit and Underground Ore Control with an emphasis on structural geology and resource development. Technical experience in mineral resource modelling and estimation for open pit and block cave mining methods as well as a BSc (minimum) in Geology is preferred for the role. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and build a high performing team are essential to the role. Experience with LeapFrog, MineSight or similar modelling and mine planning software packages in Gold and Copper is preferred.
