About the role

The role is Perth office based supporting all of MRLs exploration projects, but will require significant field time to provide the face-to-face safety leadership of the role.

We are looking for a Safety Superintendent to plan and aid in the implementation of safe systems of work in the Field Operations team and support the safe execution of all of MRL's Exploration activities. This will be a hands-on position managing a small safety and emergency services team to support geologists and field supervisors conducting MRL's exploration activities. You will play a key part in leading the safety commitment required to achieve the company's goals in identifying and evaluating mineral resources.

You will
  • Provide Safety leadership to the Field Operations team
  • Provide continuous improvement of field operations risk reviews, identification of risks and controls
  • Safety supervision of field activities and camps and coaching of field operations supervisors in the use of safe systems of work
  • Ensure incident reporting to the company and DMIRS requirements and all statutory reporting for all safety compliance
  • Run group risk assessments and assist with site specific inductions, prestarts and return to work meetings and safety toolboxes
  • Execute Weekly and monthly reports
  • Set standards and coach staff in doing regular work place inspections, hazard identification, field interactions and planned task observations
  • Ensure incident investigations are of an appropriate level and that the resulting recommendations are appropriate and actioned
  • Safety data analysis and identification of key hazard or risks.
  • Ongoing system development to improve the safety of MRL's field activities and safe outcomes

What you'll bring to the team
  • Degree or diploma in safety or safety management
  • 10+ years experience in the mining and exploration industry
  • ICAM, TapRooT or similar incident investigation experience or qualification
  • Proven safety system analysis and results
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
  • Proven experience in managing remote exploration works or mining activities
  • Senior First Aid or equivalent
