Summary

The person in this position will work with project teams on civil engineering and related technical assignments. Work may include project management, design and analysis, civil engineering design using CADD modeling software, construction plan and specification preparation, spreadsheet development, and construction oversight. Responsibilities may also include preparation of plans and specifications for mining tailings projects; hydrologic and hydraulic calculations; geotechnical investigations; soils classification; report writing, including assisting with large report preparation; site development design, construction cost estimating, and facility inspection.

This person may also work with permitting agencies and public officials. Work may require long-term field assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical, or related engineering field
  • 5 years of experience directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Ability and willingness to conduct fieldwork independently
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to safely lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 kilograms
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship OR must be able to obtain a TN work permit
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience working on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at an engineering or industrial workplace
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or ability to obtain within one year
  • Experience with geotechnical drilling and instrumentation installation procedures
  • Experience with communications systems and telemetry
  • Experience with photogrammetry and remote sensing
  • Demonstrated proficiency using current versions of AutoCAD and Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug and alcohol screening program at the request of specific clients.
