Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Technician: Electrical Communications to join their Underground Maintenance department at St Ives Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Electrical Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing quality and timely preventative maintenance and repairs of the surface radio communications and telemetry network facilities.

This role is offered on a 9 days on, 5 days off roster and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times.
  • Practice preventative maintenance through scheduled inspections, servicing, adjustments, troubleshooting and timely repair of communication and telemetry equipment
  • Provide reliable and accurate maintenance knowledge, expertise and practical application of RF radio and telemetry networks
  • Maximize return on assets through effective performance and reliability of the respective equipment and tools
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all task instructions and procedures and ensure that these are consistently adhered to when carrying out maintenance tasks
  • Execution of the communications plan for St Ives
  • Complete all administrative processing requirements associated with maintenance duties
  • Demonstrate full compliance with the OHS and Environmental Systems standards


Key factors to your success include:

  • Tertiary qualification in IT, Communications and or Instrumentation
  • Trade qualification in Instrumentation and or Communication
  • Current C Class Drivers License
  • WA "A" Class Electrical Workers Licence
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in radio communications, telemetry networks, and maintenance
  • Extensive knowledge of communications technologies and equipment
  • Minimum of 2 years' mining industry experience
  • Senior First Aid, EWP, Forklift and Working at Heights certificates are desirable
